Controls Engineer
The Controls Engineer at Confidential Client is responsible for designing, modifying, and supporting PLC-based control systems for manufacturing and test equipment, ensuring reliable and safe operation. This role involves troubleshooting, system integration, software development, and collaboration with cross-functional teams and external partners to maintain production continuity and support new equipment installations. What You’ll Do
You will support design, implementation, debugging, and maintenance of PLC-based control systems and automation solutions for manufacturing tools and test benches at our confidential client’s Canton, NY facility. This hands-on role partners with mechanical, process, and operations teams to keep production running, support new equipment installations, and drive continuous improvement.
- Design, modify, and maintain PLC and HMI code (ladder logic and related languages)
- Create and maintain electrical schematics, panel layouts, wiring diagrams, and technical documentation
- Implement controls for motion systems, lasers, vision systems, and process equipment
- Troubleshoot electrical, controls, and software issues to minimize downtime
- Support FAT/SAT/IQ/OQ/PQ activities, equipment start-ups, and staff training
- Coordinate with external machine builders, system integrators, and suppliers
- Design and implement machine safety/interlock circuits and participate in safety reviews
Responsibilities
- Serve as the primary technical resource for controls-related equipment and test benches in Canton, NY
- Develop and maintain PLC, HMI, recipes, interlocks, alarms, and basic data logging
- Modify or replicate legacy/obsolete control systems during upgrades or installations
- Prepare PM documentation, identify critical spare parts, and support maintenance strategies
- Communicate progress, technical risks, and escalation points clearly with stakeholders
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering with controls aptitude, or similar discipline
- 0–3 years of manufacturing experience (entry to early-career)
- Ability to debug and monitor PLC code (ladder logic)
- Practical understanding of AC/DC electrical theory and ability to interpret/generate electrical drawings
- Working knowledge of data analysis using Microsoft Excel, Access, SQL, and/or Power BI
- Knowledge of ANSI standards, NFPA, and NEC electrical codes
- Ability to travel up to 25% (regional and occasional international)
- US citizenship required (applicants must be able to provide documentation)

Preferred / Nice-to-Have
- Internship experience in controls or manufacturing engineering
- Experience with Allen-Bradley PLCs, motion control, and I/O hardware
- Familiarity with industrial vision systems, servo motors, valves, and sensing devices
- Experience with Autodesk Inventor or other 3D modeling tools
- Exposure to Six Sigma or other process improvement methodologies
- Strong diagnostic/problem-solving skills and ability to work independently
Compensation & Benefits
- Salary range: $71,067.00 - $97,718.00 (annual, full-time). Starting pay depends on job-related factors such as location, experience, and education.
- Benefits typically include medical, dental, vision, paid time off, retirement contributions, company-paid pension components, bonuses, and employee support programs. Specific package details will be provided by the hiring organization.

- Primary work location: Canton, NY
- Up to 25% travel required (regional and occasional international)
