What You’ll Do

This role supports an accelerated, on-site project to configure and deploy a new equipment monitoring system across plant assets — initially focused on Siemens-controlled equipment. You’ll work directly on the plant floor in a manufacturing (automotive) environment to modify PLC logic, configure interface modules, and enable reliable data transfer to cloud-based monitoring and alert systems.

  • Modify Siemens-controlled equipment to support enhanced monitoring and data collection.
  • Update and transfer existing PLC logic using Siemens STEP 7 / TIA Portal (focus is modification/transfer rather than greenfield programming).
  • Configure interface modules and communication for consistent data flow to a monitoring portal.
  • Tune and verify visualization and tracking in the monitoring portal to ensure accurate performance metrics.
  • Ensure PLC data reaches cloud systems to trigger alerts and generate anticipated work orders.
  • Maintain accurate documentation for control logic, configurations, and monitoring settings.
  • Collaborate with engineering and operations teams to understand equipment behavior and monitoring needs.
  • Follow plant safety procedures and maintain clear communication while working on production equipment.

Responsibilities

  • Apply automation and controls best practices in an automotive manufacturing setting.
  • Work hands-on with Siemens controllers (S7-1500, S7-1200, S7-300, S7-400).
  • Use Siemens TIA Portal and STEP 7 to modify/transfer PLC logic.
  • Implement IEC 61131-3 structured code (LD, FBD, ST) as needed to support monitoring.
  • Integrate industrial protocols (PROFINET, OPC UA, Ethernet/IP) for reliable data exchange.
  • Read and interpret electrical schematics, control drawings, and sequences of operation.
  • Produce and maintain clear system documentation and change logs.

Required Qualifications

  • Up to two years of relevant experience in automation or controls (including co-op or internship experience).
  • Hands-on experience with Siemens controllers and familiarity with S7-1500 / S7-1200 / S7-300 / S7-400.
  • Experience using Siemens TIA Portal and STEP 7 for PLC logic modification and transfer.
  • Knowledge of IEC 61131-3 languages (Ladder Logic, FBD, Structured Text).
  • Familiarity with PROFINET, OPC UA, Ethernet/IP or similar industrial communications.
  • Ability to read electrical schematics and control documentation.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills; able to collaborate across engineering and operations.

Preferred / Additional Qualifications

  • Associates or Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Controls Engineering, Mechatronics, or related field — or equivalent direct experience.
  • Prior experience in automotive or high-volume manufacturing environments.
  • Background specifically in modifying/transferring existing PLC logic vs. full new program development.
  • Interest in predictive maintenance, equipment performance monitoring, and data-driven continuous improvement.
  • Attention to detail and a methodical approach to system configuration and testing.

Work Environment & Schedule

This is a fully on-site, hands-on role in a manufacturing plant in Brook Park, OH. Expect to spend significant time on the plant floor interacting with assets and capital equipment. The project is expected to run approximately six months and will initially cover ~35% of plant equipment (Siemens-focused). Safety procedures are enforced and effective communication with cross-functional teams is essential.
