Position Overview
Confidential Client is hiring multiple full-time Consulting Utility Forester roles based in Norfolk, VA (additional coverage includes Virginia Beach, Chesapeake, and Newport News). This on-site field role supports utility vegetation management and environmental consulting projects that keep powerlines safe and protect natural resources. Ideal candidates enjoy outdoor fieldwork, using GIS and mobile tech, and working collaboratively with crews and utility clients.
What You’ll Do
As a Consulting Utility Forester / Vegetation Management professional you will:
- Conduct vegetation inspections and field assessments along utility rights-of-way
- Identify tree and brush management needs and recommend appropriate treatment plans
- Support Integrated Vegetation Management (IVM) and environmental compliance projects
- Collect and document field data using GIS mapping and mobile technology
- Evaluate terrain, habitat, and environmental conditions within project areas
- Collaborate with planners, project managers, and field crews to implement vegetation solutions
- Help utilities maintain safety, reliability, and regulatory compliance
What We’re Looking For
Required qualifications and attributes:
- Passion for outdoor work and ability to perform in varying terrain and weather
- Ability to read and interpret GIS maps and spatial data
- Strong communication and teamwork skills
- Organized, detail-oriented, and comfortable using mobile field technology
- Valid driver’s license and a clean driving record
- Ability to operate a 4x4 vehicle and travel within the service area (travel up to ~25%)
- Knowledge of, or willingness to learn, local tree species identification and growth patterns
Preferred qualifications:
- Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Forestry, Urban Forestry, Horticulture, Environmental Science, or related field
- Utility vegetation management or rights-of-way experience
- ISA Certified Arborist® or equivalent credentials
- Leadership experience and interest in career advancement

- Pay range: $20 - $27 per hour (based on experience, education, and certifications)
