Overview

Confidential Client is hiring a Consulting Utility Forester (Vegetation Management / Utility Forester) to support utility rights-of-way (ROW) inspection, vegetation assessments, and field data collection in and around Augusta, ME. This is a full-time, field-focused role ideal for candidates who enjoy outdoor work, GIS-driven data collection, and collaborating with crews and planners to keep infrastructure safe and reliable.


What You’ll Do

As a vegetation management professional you will:

  • Conduct vegetation inspections and assessments along utility rights-of-way and distribution/transmission corridors.
  • Identify tree and brush management needs and recommend treatment plans to maintain reliability and compliance.
  • Use GIS mapping and mobile technology to collect, document, and report field data.
  • Evaluate terrain, habitat, and environmental conditions to support safe work planning.
  • Collaborate with planners, project managers, contractors, and field crews to implement vegetation solutions.
  • Support utilities’ compliance, reliability, and public safety objectives during routine and project work.

Qualifications

Required

  • Passion for working outdoors in varying terrain and weather conditions near Augusta, ME.
  • Experience reading and interpreting GIS maps and spatial data on mobile devices.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills; able to work effectively in teams.
  • Organized, detail-oriented, and comfortable using mobile data collection tools.
  • Valid driver’s license and clean driving record; ability to operate a 4x4 vehicle and ATV.
  • Knowledge of local tree species identification and growth patterns relevant to utility ROW.
  • Prior utility vegetation management, right-of-way inspection, or similar field experience.

Preferred

  • Associate or Bachelor’s degree in Forestry, Urban Forestry, Horticulture, Environmental Science, or related field.
  • ISA Certified Arborist® or equivalent certification.

Compensation & Perks

  • Pay: $20.00 - $28.00 per hour (dependent on experience, education, and certifications).
  • Company vehicle for commuting and field work.
