Position Overview

Confidential Client (via Careertakes) is hiring a Construction Project Engineer (Develop-Build) in Chicago, IL. This full-time role supports preconstruction through closeout on multifamily, mixed-use, and high‑rise residential projects. The role offers exposure to both development and construction functions and a clear growth path toward Assistant Project Manager and Project Manager roles.

What You’ll Do

As a Project Engineer on the Develop-Build team you will:

  • Support preconstruction, estimating, buyout, and project planning efforts
  • Manage project documentation including RFIs, submittals, drawings, permits, and change orders
  • Maintain tracking logs and project controls throughout the construction lifecycle
  • Coordinate project meetings and distribute meeting minutes
  • Assist with procurement activities, subcontractor onboarding, and material tracking
  • Monitor project schedules, milestones, and delivery timelines
  • Partner with field teams to support project execution and subcontractor coordination
  • Participate in safety, quality control, and project closeout activities
  • Help identify and communicate potential project risks, design changes, and cost impacts

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Architecture, or a related field preferred
  • 0–3 years of construction experience (internships, co-ops, or full‑time)
  • Understanding of construction documents and project management processes
  • Strong organizational, communication, and problem‑solving skills
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast‑paced environment
  • Experience with Microsoft Office; experience with construction management software is a plus
