Overview

Confidential Client is hiring multiple Construction Inspectors (entry-level to early career) to support transportation, marine/port, and underground utility construction projects across the Pittsburgh region and western Pennsylvania. These are full-time, contract roles with field-based responsibilities, frequent travel to project sites, and opportunities to develop inspection and construction-management skills.

What You’ll Do

Confidential Client seeks inspectors to monitor contractor work for compliance with plans, specifications and permits. Typical day-to-day responsibilities include:

• Perform field inspection on roadway, bridge, storm drainage/SWM and related construction activities
• Monitor contractor conformance to design documents and permit requirements
• Track daily quantities and maintain accurate daily inspection reports
• Review payment requisitions and support project invoicing processes
• Maintain field sketchbooks and as-built drawings
• Support Resident Engineer and field office staff with document control as needed
• Use basic construction-management software and Microsoft Word/Excel to complete electronic reports

Who We’re Looking For (Qualifications)

Candidates should present a mix of education, training and field experience. Typical qualifications include:

• 0–2 years of field construction inspection experience preferred; Associate or Bachelor degree may be substituted for experience
• High school diploma or GED required for inspection positions; BS in Civil Engineering and/or CCM preferred for Resident Engineer / construction management roles
• Able to read and interpret plans, specifications and contract documents
• Strong written and verbal communication skills; ability to complete inspection reports and sketchbooks
• Comfortable performing repetitive tasks and documenting observations in the field
• Valid driver’s license and reliable personal vehicle for travel to job sites

Desirable Certifications & Technical Skills

The following certifications and platform experience are desirable but not strictly required:

• NECEPT Bituminous and NECEPT Concrete
• NICET levels and ATSSA Traffic Control certifications
• Familiarity with PENNDOT and Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission construction/inspection platforms (e.g., CDS NeXtGen, eCAMMS, ECMS Wave II)
• Experience with Multivista, SharePoint, Kahua Project Management & Collaboration, or similar systems

Physical Requirements & Work Environment

This is a field role with physical demands and exposure to outdoor elements. Essential functions include:

• Walking on uneven, muddy or rocky terrain and navigating steep slopes or wooded areas
• Climbing ladders, scaffolding and stairs; working at heights (above 6 feet) with appropriately fitted safety harnesses
• Bending, kneeling, twisting and standing or sitting for extended periods
• Repetitive hand/wrist motions and lifting or carting up to 50 lbs for short distances
• Driving to/from project sites; travel distances may be up to or exceed 120 miles round trip
• Willingness to work nights or overtime when project needs require it

Confidential Client will provide necessary PPE and safety training per project requirements.

Compensation & Benefits

• Pay range (good-faith estimate): $45,000 — $85,000 per year, depending on experience, certifications and specific assignment

This compensation range is disclosed in compliance with applicable pay-transparency guidance; actual pay offered will be based on candidate experience and role specifics.
