What You’ll Do

The Confidential Client is hiring an entry-level Construction Engineer to support heavy‑highway, civil, and site‑development projects in the Raleigh, NC area. You will work on‑site with the project team to track costs, quantities, schedules and submittals, and to help ensure field work conforms to design and applicable codes.

  • Produce labor and equipment cost reports to monitor production, billing, budgets and costs‑to‑complete
  • Produce daily, weekly and monthly quantities and reconcile owner quantities using Excel and SAP
  • Assist Field Engineer and Project Engineer in updating the project CPM schedule using Primavera P6
  • Initiate purchase orders, manage shop drawings, submittals and material deliveries
  • Prepare forecasted final cost reports and bi‑monthly cost/quantity comparisons (as‑bid vs as‑built) in SAP/Excel format
  • Develop and track submittals and vendor/subcontractor pay requisitions
  • Draft field sketches and interpret contract drawings for field use
  • Compile daily logs/diaries, including photo logs; produce meeting minutes
  • Maintain Excel tracking logs for Change Orders, RFIs and Claims
  • Prepare and reconcile owner pay requisitions
  • Monitor CPM schedule and manage quantities in the SAP cost‑control program
  • Evaluate preconstruction field conditions and support site verification activities
  • Communicate clearly with supervisors and the project team to resolve field issues

Qualifications

To be successful in this role you should meet these minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering or Construction Management, or equivalent work experience
  • Entry‑level role — prior internship or co‑op experience in civil/construction is a plus
  • Basic civil engineering knowledge and familiarity with construction industry practices
  • Proficient PC skills and experience with:
    • Microsoft Excel
    • Primavera P6 (scheduling)
    • SAP (cost control)
    • Bluebeam, Planswift, AGTEK (or similar tools)
  • Strong written and oral communication skills; able to work collaboratively on busy job sites
  • Willingness to work a flexible schedule based on project needs

Physical Demands & Work Environment

This position requires frequent on‑site work and physical activity typical of construction projects.

  • Regularly required to sit and/or stand for an 8‑hour shift
  • Occasionally required to stoop, bend, walk, crouch and climb
  • Ability to lift frequently at least 25 lbs and carry up to 15 lbs
  • Visual acuity: close, distance, color, peripheral vision and depth perception
  • Continuous mental attention to complete tasks efficiently
  • Exposure to dust, dirt, grease, high noise levels and typical construction substances (form oil, curing compounds, fuels, concrete)
  • Work at heights (up to ~60 feet) requiring ladders, scaffolds and stair towers
  • Frequent walking on uneven surfaces and in varying weather conditions
