What You’ll Do

Confidential Client is hiring a Construction Engineer I to support planning, coordination, and execution of construction projects across District 3. This is an entry-level engineering role with frequent field work and project-site travel.

  • Assist in planning, design, and execution of construction projects consistent with engineering principles and project specifications
  • Collaborate with senior engineers and project managers on schedules, cost estimates, and resource allocation
  • Perform site assessments and ensure work meets safety, quality, and environmental guidelines
  • Monitor project progress and report status, risks, and issues for timely resolution
  • Coordinate contractors, subcontractors, and suppliers to help ensure on-time delivery of materials and services
  • Prepare and review technical documentation, drawings, permits, and reports to support compliance with codes and regulations
  • Support project budget tracking and efficient use of materials and labor
  • Assist with inspections, testing, and quality-control activities in the field
  • Participate in team meetings and communicate next steps to stakeholders
  • Keep current with industry methods, materials, and best practices to improve project delivery

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Engineering, or related field
  • 0–2 years’ experience in construction engineering, field engineering, or related roles (internship/co-op experience considered)
  • Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification preferred
  • Basic knowledge of construction methods, materials, and safety standards
  • Familiarity with engineering drawings, specifications, and project documentation
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office; experience with basic engineering/construction software is a plus
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and time-management skills
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills; ability to follow direction and work collaboratively
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to travel to project sites as required

Preferred Qualifications

  • Internship or co-op experience on roadway, bridge, utility, or site development projects
  • Familiarity with state or municipal transportation agencies
  • Experience with construction inspection, quantity tracking, or materials testing
  • OSHA 10 certification or willingness to obtain

Location & Travel

This position is located in Naperville, IL and will require travel across District 3 in Illinois, including but not limited to Bureau, Dekalb, Ford, Grundy, Iroquois, Kankakee, Kendall, LaSalle, and Livingston Counties.
