Overview

Confidential Client is hiring a Computer Scientist I to join their technical team in Simpsonville, MD. This is an entry-level technical role supporting analysis and data-processing projects that inform health policy and public program decisions. You'll work with experienced programmers and analysts to develop, maintain, and extract value from person-based and administrative datasets using tools such as SAS, SQL, and Python.

What You’ll Do

• Use SAS, SQL, Python (and similar languages) to manipulate large datasets and produce analysis-ready tables and extracts
• Develop and maintain databases created from administrative, survey, or other program data
• Contribute to development efforts and critical project tasks as part of cross-functional teams
• Generate tables, data extracts, and documentation for use by analysts and technical peers
• Document methods, data anomalies, and findings clearly for both technical and non-technical audiences
• Follow information security and privacy policies and procedures when handling sensitive data
• Perform other related duties as assigned to support project delivery and learning goals

Qualifications

Required

• Ability to work effectively on teams and maintain professional working relationships
• Clear oral and written communication skills for both technical peers and lay audiences
• Demonstrated aptitude for following established methods, processes, and documented procedures
• Capacity to perform structured, entry-level technical tasks and to learn from higher-graded staff

Preferred

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related field
• Experience or coursework with SAS, SQL, and/or Python
• Exposure to cloud data platforms or environments such as Snowflake or Databricks
• Familiarity with BI / reporting tools and producing analytical reports
• Experience using AI-assisted tools for programming or data tasks is a plus
