What You’ll Do

Confidential Client seeks part-time instructors to join its computer science and technology teaching pool. Successful candidates will teach one or more of the following — in-person, hybrid, or online — depending on program need:

  • Introduction to Computer Science and programming fundamentals
  • Courses using Python, Java, C++, or similar languages
  • Scripting, automation, and applied software development practices
  • Data structures, algorithms, and computer architecture/systems concepts
  • Web development, databases, and networking fundamentals
  • Cybersecurity fundamentals and information technology concepts
  • Applied computer technology for workforce and transfer pathways

Key responsibilities:

  • Prepare, modify, and deliver course content (syllabi, assignments, labs, assessments) aligned with approved course outlines and student learning outcomes.
  • Provide inclusive, student-centered instruction that supports diverse learners and promotes persistence and success.
  • Assess student learning and provide timely, constructive feedback.
  • Maintain accurate records and submit grades by deadlines.
  • Use Canvas or similar learning management systems and other instructional technologies as needed.
  • Communicate regularly with students and be available for consultation.
  • Refer students to appropriate support services and collaborate with faculty and staff to ensure curriculum continuity.
  • Stay current with tools, practices, and trends in computer science and technology education.

Qualifications

Minimum qualifications (one of the following):

  • Master’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Information Systems, Information Technology, Cybersecurity, Software Engineering, or a closely related field; or
  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field plus at least 10 years of relevant professional experience; or
  • A combination of education, industry experience, certifications, and demonstrated teaching/training ability that supports effective instruction in the assigned discipline.

Required skills:

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to use technology effectively in teaching (e.g., Canvas, LMS tools, remote instruction platforms).
  • Commitment to culturally responsive, equitable teaching practices.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience teaching adult learners, community college students, or workforce learners.
  • Experience teaching in online, hybrid, or technology-supported environments.
  • Professional experience in programming, software development, cybersecurity, networking, systems administration, or database management.
  • Industry-recognized certifications (cybersecurity, networking, cloud, programming, IT).
  • Demonstrated ability to connect classroom learning to real-world career applications.
  • Experience using Canvas or similar LMS.

Pay & Benefits

Salary (as provided by the Confidential Client):

  • Annual range (illustrative for full-time equivalency where applicable): $130,249 – $260,499 per year.
  • Typical per-credit pay examples used by the client:
    • Lecture credit: $124.76 per hour ($1,372.40 per credit). Example: a 5-credit lecture paid at ~55 hours for the quarter ≈ $6,862.
    • Lab credit: $62.38 per hour. Example: a 3-credit lab (6 hours/week) paid at ~66 hours for the quarter ≈ $4,117.

Part-time faculty may become eligible for healthcare and retirement benefits after meeting the Confidential Client’s eligibility rules (e.g., consecutive quarters at half-time or more). Sick leave, tuition reductions, life and disability insurance, and retirement options may apply per institutional policy and collective bargaining agreements.


Conditions of Employment & Additional Info

  • Employment of individuals who reside outside the state of Washington requires prior approval from both human resources and institutional leadership. Absent such approval, Confidential Client will not hire out-of-state employees.
