Community Lending Officer
The Community Mortgage Lending Officer is an entry-level role responsible for driving mortgage sales and building client relationships through engagement with community clients, real estate agents, and affordable housing non-profits. Responsibilities
This role with Confidential Client in the Accounting & Finance industry focuses on originating mortgage loans and building community relationships to drive mortgage sales. Core responsibilities include:
- Consult with customers about financial situation, goals, and lending needs to support homeownership.
- Collect and analyze income, assets, debts, cash flow and credit history to assess lending eligibility.
- Make and explain lending recommendations and pricing alternatives that align with customers’ objectives.
- Advise customers on risks, benefits, and consequences of lending options.
- Promote Confidential Client’s lending and financial solutions to customers, real estate agents, builders, and referral partners.
- Conduct customer meetings outside the office when required by market and client needs.
- Partner with internal teams (Operations, Processors, Underwriters, Wealth, Small Business, Cards) to ensure smooth loan processing and timely closings.
- Build and maintain referral relationships with realtors, CPAs, builders, and affordable housing nonprofits.
- Attend 2–3 Diverse Realtor or affordable housing nonprofit events per month to grow community presence.
- Adhere to compliance, risk management, and firm policies; escalate and report control issues transparently.
Qualifications
- 2–5 years relevant experience; residential mortgage background required.
- 3+ years previous mortgage sales experience preferred.
- Established relationships with diverse realtor organizations and affordable lending nonprofits in your territory.
- Experience with community loan products, including LMI mortgage solutions, lender-paid assistance, and third-party assistance programs.
- Proven book of business and track record of origination.
- FHA/VA and conventional loan experience preferred.
- Strong ability to explain financial calculations, pricing and required documentation to clients.
- Knowledge of consumer lending laws and regulations (fair lending, privacy, RESPA).
- Demonstrated customer service skills and ability to work independently.
- Strong relationship development and management skills.
- Target origination expectation: originate a minimum of 3 loans/month, with at least 50% CRA-eligible or in minority tracts.
Licensing & Regulatory Requirements
- This position requires registration as a Mortgage Loan Originator with the Nationwide Mortgage Licensing System & Registry (NMLS) and obtaining a unique identifier prior to engaging in MLO activities.
- Fingerprinting may be required if suitable fingerprints are not on file with NMLS within the last 3 years.
- You must maintain and renew NMLS registration annually and comply with applicable SAFE Act and other regulatory requirements.
Education
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience.
Compensation & Benefits
- Primary Location Full Time Salary Range: $90,000 - $90,000 per year.
- In addition to base salary, Confidential Client may offer discretionary or formulaic incentives, retention awards, and competitive benefits (medical, dental, vision, 401(k), life and disability insurance, paid time off, etc.). Offerings vary by jurisdiction and job level.
