Role overview

Confidential Client is hiring an entry-level Combustion and Emissions Systems Engineer to join an early-career thermal & fluid systems team. This technical role focuses on applying combustion, emissions, thermodynamics, fluid dynamics, and experimental/modeling tools to support product development, testing, and problem resolution for engine and powertrain systems.

What you’ll do

  • Investigate product, system, and technology issues related to combustion, emissions, thermal and fluid systems; identify root causes and recommend corrective actions.
  • Use and contribute to engineering processes (Pre Program Planning, Value Package processes, Engineering Standard Work, Functional Excellence Practices).
  • Perform modeling, simulation and analysis using tools such as GT‑Power, Fluent, Converge, and other computational/virtual test methods.
  • Support experimental work including test planning, bench and vehicle testing, data acquisition, calibration interfaces (ECM tool use), and emissions data management.
  • Produce technical documentation, validation plans, and test reports that inform project decisions and product requirements.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional stakeholders (product, manufacturing, suppliers, and other engineering teams) to support design optimization and system architecture decisions.
  • Apply basic statistical methods, DOE and regression analysis to evaluate results and make data‑driven recommendations.
  • Contribute to verification & validation, failure‑mode mitigation, and product lifecycle activities as part of a development team.

Key competencies & technical skills

  • Strong foundation in combustion and emissions science principles (reaction chemistry, pollutant formation, control strategies).
  • Fundamentals of fluid dynamics, heat transfer, and thermodynamics as applied to internal combustion engines and energy conversion systems.
  • Experience (academic, internship, or project) with modeling/simulation tools or the ability to learn GT‑Power, Fluent, Converge, or similar.
  • Familiarity with data analysis tools and test data workflows; ability to interpret and communicate technical results.
  • Ability to define system requirements, perform systems thinking, and translate stakeholder needs into verifiable engineering requirements.
  • Effective written and verbal communication; collaboration across multidisciplinary teams.
  • Problem solving using structured methods that protect customer outcomes and prevent recurrence.

Minimum qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a related STEM field (ME preferred).
  • Entry-level / Early career: within 2 years of completing highest degree for exempt entry-level eligibility.
  • For international students (F-1): CPT or OPT authorization required before assignment start.
  • Authorized to work in the U.S. for the role location (Seymour, IN) as applicable.

Preferred / helpful experience

  • Internships, co‑ops or student project experience in engine testing, emissions, modeling, or thermal/fluid systems.
  • Hands-on exposure to engine calibration tools, ECM in-loop test benches, or emissions data systems.
  • Basic proficiency with Microsoft Office and technical reporting tools.

Employment details & compensation

  • Employment type: Full time (CONTRACTOR / FULL_TIME in source).
