College Adviser- Hastings High School (AmeriCorps)

About the Role
Serve with an AmeriCorps program through a Confidential Client to support Michigan students in pursuing and completing postsecondary education. Roles are available as AdviseMI Advisors (high school-based) and College Completion Coaches (college-based). Both positions provide direct coaching, workshops, relationship-building with school and campus partners, and help students navigate applications, financial aid, and persistence to graduation.
Compensation: $20,000 living stipend
Benefits: Segal Education Award ($3,697.50 post-service), health/medical/dental coverage, childcare assistance (if eligible)
Service Commitment
- Term: December 1, 2026 – June 11, 2027
- Hours: 900 total service hours (approximately 37.5–40 hours/week)
- Full-term commitment required
- Well-suited for entry-level candidates and those pursuing encore careers
Training & Support
- No prior experience required — training provided
- Comprehensive onboarding (virtual + in-person) and ongoing professional development
- Regional meetings and conference participation supported
- Travel and training costs covered
- Training hours are capped at 20% of total service hours (per AmeriCorps guidelines)
What You’ll Do
- Provide one-on-one academic and persistence coaching to a cohort of students
- Lead classroom presentations, workshops, and group events focused on college access and completion
- Build and maintain strong relationships with school/campus staff and community partners
- Track, report, and document student progress and outcomes
- Participate in regular trainings, meetings, and professional development activities
- Represent the program at outreach events

Qualifications & Eligibility
General requirements:
- Must be 18+ and a U.S. citizen, national, or legal permanent resident
- Must pass federal and state background checks where required
- Must live within 45 minutes of placement site and have reliable transportation
Education requirements:
- AdviseMI Advisor: Bachelor’s degree preferred (Associate’s may be accepted at some locations)
- College Completion Corps: Associate degree or higher
Service Locations
Positions are available across Michigan, including (but not limited to): Gaylord, Manton, Muskegon, Pentwater, Watervliet, Otisville, Attica, Davison, Taylor, Wayne, Hastings — and other partner high schools and colleges across the state.
