Role Overview

Confidential Client is seeking an entry- to junior-level Coastal Engineer to join its engineering team in Philatelic, CA. This hands-on role supports planning, analysis, and design for waterfront and coastal infrastructure projects. The position includes fieldwork, coastal process modeling, and technical report preparation under the guidance of senior engineers.


What You’ll Do

  • Support planning and design for waterfront and coastal structures, including marinas, marine terminals, living shorelines, coastal restoration, dredging, shore protection, and beach nourishment.
  • Prepare or contribute to feasibility studies, environmental assessments, and coastal hazard evaluations.
  • Collect and analyze coastal data, survey and geotechnical information, engineering drawings, and aerial imagery.
  • Perform calculations and run coastal process and sediment-transport models; evaluate wave overtopping and armor stability.
  • Assist with preparation of engineering design documentation, permits, and technical reports.
  • Participate in project meetings and workshops; assist with fieldwork and instrument deployment.
  • Attend conferences and training for professional development.

Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in Coastal, Water Resources, or Civil Engineering required; or Bachelor’s degree in a relevant discipline plus typically 2–4 years of relevant experience.
  • EIT (Engineer-in-Training) expected within 6 months of hire.
  • Familiarity with coastal engineering design concepts (marinas, coastal protection, dredging, beach nourishment, living shorelines).
  • Proficient in AutoCAD; growing proficiency in Civil 3D, MicroStation, and/or GIS (QGIS or ArcGIS).
  • Exposure to hydrodynamic and wave modeling tools (examples: MIKE21, Delft3D, SWAN) is a plus.
  • Ability to perform coastal-process and sediment-transport calculations.
  • Strong technical judgment; able to work independently on well-defined tasks under supervision.
  • Successful completion of a post-offer background check (requirements may include standards consistent with NIST 800-171) and ability to provide documentation to work in the U.S. Employment may be contingent upon eligibility verification.

Compensation & Benefits

  • Base pay: $42.00 to $48.00 per hour (range applicable to hires working in California markets).

Physical Requirements & Work Environment

  • Majority of work is office-based in Philatelic, CA, with occasional site visits. Site visits may require navigating unpaved or natural terrain and carrying field equipment.
