Cloud Software Engineer, Level 1
The Cloud Software Engineer at Confidential Client is responsible for designing, developing, and maintaining high-performance cloud-native software solutions supporting mission-critical systems. This role involves full lifecycle software development including containerization, API development, debugging, and integration of complex cloud services, with a focus on distributed file systems, big data analytics, and cloud coordination frameworks. What You’ll Do
You will design, implement, integrate, test, and sustain cloud-native software and services that support mission-critical workloads. Work will span distributed file systems, big-data analytics, cloud coordination frameworks, containerized deployments, and data-repository interfaces. You’ll collaborate with engineers, systems integrators, and end users to translate requirements into reliable, high-performance cloud solutions.
- Design and implement new features and capabilities for cloud-native service offerings
- Develop and maintain APIs for operational data search and presentation
- Implement and optimize code that interacts with cloud distributed file systems and coordination frameworks
- Support complex MapReduce-style analytics and big-data workflows
- Containerize applications and develop deployment patterns; run hands-on container training sessions
- Integrate, debug, and validate software across environments; write and review documentation
- Build database queries and data repository interfaces to meet performance goals
- Apply configuration management and software engineering best practices
- Contribute to automated provisioning, monitoring, and data integration pipelines
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related discipline and 4 years of relevant cloud-domain experience, OR equivalent experience per the role’s substitution rules
- Demonstrated experience (minimum 1 year each) with:
- Implementing code that interacts with cloud distributed file systems
- Architectures supporting MapReduce or similar analytics
- Cloud distributed coordination frameworks
- Experience with containerization and container orchestration (training/mentoring experience a plus)
- Strong software development fundamentals: debugging, testing, documentation, and performance tuning
- Ability to develop API-based interfaces and complex data queries
- Familiarity with data integration pipelines, provisioning automation, and monitoring tools
Note on substitutions (as reflected in the client’s hiring criteria): advanced degrees or relevant certifications (e.g., Cloudera Hadoop, CompTIA Cloud+, AWS/Azure certifications) may substitute for portions of the experience requirement. Exact substitutions will be evaluated by the hiring team.

This position requires U.S. citizenship and an active TS/SCI security clearance with Polygraph at time of hire. These requirements are contract-driven and must be met for consideration.
