Role Overview

Confidential Client is hiring a Cloud Engineer to help operate, maintain, and improve a secure, reliable cloud platform that supports application teams. This is an early-career individual contributor role on a platform/DevOps-oriented team. You will work with senior engineers to implement infrastructure changes, support platform services, respond to incidents, and help automate repeatable tasks.

  • Estimated pay: $176,275 per year (estimated)

What You’ll Do

  • Build and support AWS infrastructure using established designs, security controls, and change-management practices.
  • Work with senior engineers to clarify requirements and technical decisions.
  • Maintain, monitor, upgrade, and troubleshoot platform technologies including Amazon EKS, service meshes, API gateways, Kafka/MSK, and Redis/ElastiCache.
  • Use Terraform, Helm, and GitHub Actions to provision infrastructure and deploy platform changes.
  • Manage IAM, networking, encryption, and secrets requests using established standards and identify automation opportunities.
  • Monitor platform health, respond to alerts and incidents, troubleshoot with application teams, and escalate complex issues.
  • Apply tagging standards, support cost reporting, investigate waste, and implement approved cost-saving changes.
  • Maintain runbooks, implementation notes, request records, and troubleshooting guides; share lessons learned with the team.
  • Participate in the on-call rotation, respond to incidents, communicate impact, and help prevent repeat issues.
  • Build AWS and cloud platform skills through hands-on work, training, certifications, and feedback.

Who You Are (Basic Qualifications)

Entry-level candidates are welcome. Experience may come from employment, internships, labs, coursework, certifications, or personal projects.

  • Experience with core AWS concepts and services (compute, networking, storage, IAM, security groups, subnets, routing, monitoring).
  • Experience deploying, managing, or supporting containerized applications on Kubernetes (Amazon EKS familiarity is a plus).
  • Scripting experience (Python, PowerShell, or shell).
  • Familiarity with cloud security, identity and access management, monitoring, logging, incident response, and change-management practices.
  • Willingness to learn and use AI-assisted tools to support scripting, analysis, documentation, and operational workflows.

What Will Put You Ahead (Preferred Qualifications)

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field.
  • Experience supporting cloud infrastructure, internal platforms, service requests, or operational queues.
  • Hands-on experience with Terraform, CI/CD, and source control workflows.
  • Experience with Amazon EKS, ingress controllers, container networking, or service mesh technologies (Istio, Solo Gloo, etc.).
  • Experience with API gateway technologies (Kong, Gloo) and GitOps tools (Argo CD).
  • Experience with Cloudflare or similar CDN/DNS/web security platforms.
  • Experience integrating on-premises systems with AWS (networking, identity federation).
  • Relevant certifications such as AWS Associate-level certifications, Certified Kubernetes Administrator (CKA), or HashiCorp Terraform Associate.
