Clinical Operations Financial Analyst
The Clinical Operations Financial Analyst at Confidential Client is responsible for managing the financial aspects of clinical trial programs, including reviewing and reconciling site payments, tracking budgets, processing vendor invoices, and supporting month-end close activities. This entry-level, on-site role requires collaboration with Clinical Operations, Finance, CROs, and investigative sites to ensure accurate and compliant financial management of clinical trials.

What You’ll Do
This is a full-time, on-site Financial Analyst role supporting clinical operations and clinical trial financials for a confidential client based in Wayzata, MN. You will focus on review, reconciliation, and tracking of investigator/site payments and related clinical trial expenses. Typical responsibilities include:
- Review and analyze clinical trial site payment requests; verify amounts against executed clinical trial agreements, site budgets, and completed visits or milestones.
- Serve as a primary contact for site payment questions and liaise between Clinical Operations and Finance.
- Reconcile site payment activity to enrollment and visit data from the CTMS and EDC; investigate and resolve discrepancies with sites and study teams.
- Track pass-through and reimbursable costs (patient stipends, travel, overhead), ensuring each item has appropriate documentation.
- Prepare and maintain site payment schedules and aging trackers; monitor outstanding balances by site.
- Coordinate with Accounts Payable to submit approved payments and confirm timely disbursement.
- Maintain audit-ready documentation and respond to internal/external audit requests on clinical payments.
- Assist with clinical trial budget tracking, enrollment-driven cost projections, and budget-to-actual variance analysis.
- Prepare monthly clinical accruals for unbilled and prepaid site and vendor activity and support month-end close tasks.
- Review CRO/vendor invoices, compare to contracted rates, resolve discrepancies, and ensure accurate GL coding before payment.
- Build and maintain reports to give study teams visibility into spend, remaining budget, cost per patient, and cost per site.
- Help document and improve site payment and invoice processing procedures; identify opportunities to automate manual steps.
- Support external audit, tax, and grant reporting requests related to clinical trial expense.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Controller and senior management.
What We’re Looking For
The ideal candidate is an entry-level financial/analytical professional with experience or strong interest in clinical trial finance and clinical operations. Required and preferred qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, business, or related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- 1–3 years of accounting, finance, or financial analysis experience; experience in medical device, pharmaceutical, biotechnology, or clinical research preferred.
- Familiarity with clinical trial agreements, site budgets, and investigator payments, or the ability to learn contract-based payment terms quickly.
- Understanding of clinical trial operations and Good Clinical Practice (GCP).
- Strong Excel skills (lookups, pivot tables, handling large datasets).
- Experience with an ERP/accounting system; exposure to CTMS, EDC, or clinical payment platforms is a plus.
- High attention to detail; comfortable reconciling data across multiple systems and documents.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills; ability to work with investigative sites, vendors, CROs, and internal teams.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities, meet recurring close and payment deadlines, and work independently.
- Strong organizational, planning, and follow-up skills; commitment to maintaining audit-ready records.

Location & Compensation
- Work model: On-site in Wayzata, MN (Confidential Client site).
- Estimated pay: $108,173 per year (estimated figure from source). Final offer will be determined based on experience and internal pay practices and will comply with applicable state and federal pay transparency laws.
