Overview
Confidential Client is hiring an entry-level Clinical Lab Technician to support molecular testing operations at a genetics-focused laboratory in Hayes Valley, CA. This role provides hands-on training in molecular diagnostics and lab automation while working under the supervision of licensed clinical laboratory staff.
Schedule & Location
- Location: Hayes Valley, CA (on-site)
- Shift: Tuesday–Saturday, 3:00 PM – 11:30 PM (2nd shift differential applies)
Responsibilities
- Support diagnostic testing on patient specimens under the supervision of licensed personnel using molecular assays and platforms.
- Assist licensed Clinical Laboratory Scientists (CLS) with clinical test protocols and established procedures.
- Identify and escalate issues that may affect test quality or specimen integrity.
- Receive, prioritize, and prepare clinical samples; maintain proper labeling and sample organization.
- Maintain specimen inventory and freezer organization.
- Prepare and label tubes and plates per protocol.
- Monitor consumables and reagent inventory for laboratory workstations.
- Perform general laboratory maintenance, equipment cleaning, and benchtop decontamination.
- Prepare logs, documentation, and records for routine testing and special assignments.
- Dispense pre-made, prequalified reagents/controls under direct supervision using fixed-volume devices.
- Adhere to quality control (QC) and standard operating procedures (SOPs) to ensure specimen integrity.
- Wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) and maintain a safe work environment.
- Participate in continuing education and training programs.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in a Chemical or Biological Science, Clinical Laboratory Science, or Medical Technology.
Preferred Qualifications
- 1+ year laboratory experience.
- 1+ year experience with molecular biology techniques, including nucleic acid extraction and next‑generation sequencing (NGS).
- 1+ year experience in a clinical diagnostics laboratory.
- Experience working with liquid handlers or lab automation equipment.
Additional Job Standards & Skills
- Familiarity with aseptic techniques and good specimen handling.
- Experience with SOPs, QA, and QC standards.
- Strong computer skills; comfortable with Microsoft Word and Excel.
- Excellent organizational skills and strong oral and written communication.
- Able to work collaboratively and adapt to a flexible work environment.
- Able to work flexible hours during training.
- Must be able to pass a standardized color vision test.
Compensation & Benefits
- Pay Range: $28.39 – $35.00 per hour (plus 2nd shift differential).
- Employment type: Full-time / Contractor (role may be offered as either depending on placement).
