What You’ll Do
Confidential Client seeks a Claims Examiner I to investigate, evaluate, and resolve moderately complex casualty claims. You will work with internal teams and external partners to determine liability, negotiate settlements, set reserves, and document decisions in the claims system.
- Conduct independent investigations for assigned claims (property damage and bodily injury) including witness interviews, evidence collection, and review of relevant statutes and case law.
- Analyze medical records, repair estimates, and other documentation to assess financial exposure and determine appropriate reserves.
- Retain and coordinate third-party resources (field investigators, specialists, outside counsel) as required to fully develop the claim.
- Negotiate with claimants and their representatives to reach appropriate resolutions while clearly communicating rationale and outcomes.
- Prepare and maintain accurate, auditable claim files and status reports in the claims matter management system.
- Initiate claimant contact promptly, process incoming notifications (calls, emails), and create accident reports when necessary.
- Identify subrogation opportunities by collecting repair and incident data and pursue reimbursement from responsible parties.
- Escalate claims exceeding approval limits and keep stakeholders informed of trends and improvement opportunities.
Who We’re Looking For (Minimum Qualifications)
- High school diploma or GED and 1–2 years’ experience in Auto/General Liability claims, insurance, or a related field — OR equivalent combination of education, training, or experience.
- Strong analytical skills with demonstrated ability to evaluate facts, apply judgment, and make timely decisions.
- Clear, professional communication — both written and verbal — and strong negotiation skills.
- Organized, detail-oriented approach to documentation and multi-tasking in a fast-paced environment.
- Comfortable working with internal teams and external vendors to gather and present claim-related information.
- Able to handle confidential information with integrity and comply with company policies and legal obligations.
- This position is not eligible for employment-based sponsorship.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree with at least 1 year of relevant claims or insurance experience.
- Call center or insurance industry experience.
- Knowledge of claim investigation procedures and subrogation practices.
- Ability to type at least 30 WPM and proficiency with claims documentation systems.
- Calm under pressure and skilled at influencing claimant perspectives toward mutually acceptable resolutions.
Compensation & Benefits
- Estimated pay: $51,456 per year (estimated). Actual starting pay will depend on skills, experience, geography, and other qualifications.
- May be eligible for annual bonus/incentives in accordance with company plans.
