About the Role

Confidential Client is hiring a Land Development Civil Project Engineer to join its team in Glenville, CT. This early-career role (0–5 years experience) is ideal for a recent Civil Engineering graduate, EIT, or licensed engineer looking for hands-on experience across land development projects — from site layout and grading to stormwater design, permitting, and client coordination. You will work closely with senior Professional Engineers and Licensed Land Surveyors and gain strong mentorship and project-management exposure.

What You’ll Do

  • Manage assigned land development projects, schedules, budgets, deadlines, and deliverables.
  • Develop site layouts and conceptual site designs based on survey information, zoning, site constraints, and client objectives.
  • Prepare detailed grading plans, proposed contours, spot elevations, drainage patterns, and site improvements.
  • Design stormwater management and drainage systems, including pipe networks, catch basins, detention/infiltration systems, and rain gardens.
  • Use HydroCAD (or similar) to model drainage systems, runoff, and peak flows.
  • Design and evaluate individual septic systems where required, including layouts and reserve areas.
  • Prepare sediment and erosion control plans and construction-phase measures.
  • Develop utility layouts and coordinate water, sewer, drainage, electric, gas, and other utilities.
  • Prepare drainage calculations, drainage summary reports, technical memoranda, and supporting documentation.
  • Use AutoCAD to prepare and revise engineering plans and details.
  • Respond to municipal and regulatory comments and assist with permitting and approvals.
  • Communicate directly with clients, municipal officials, consultants, contractors, and project team members.
  • Attend project meetings, perform occasional site visits, and assist with field investigations.
  • Maintain professional project documentation and correspondence; report status, challenges, and timelines to senior staff.

What We’re Looking For

  • 0–5 years of experience in civil engineering, land development, site design, or a related field.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or related engineering discipline preferred.
  • Hands-on experience with AutoCAD.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office.
  • Experience with HydroCAD or similar hydrologic/hydraulic modeling software preferred.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills and professional client-facing ability.
  • Strong organizational, time-management, and project-management skills.
  • Ability to read and interpret survey plans, zoning requirements, soils information, and technical documents.
  • Problem-solving mindset and attention to detail.
  • EIT certification preferred or willingness to obtain; PE license is a plus (not required for early-career candidates).

Nice-to-Have Skills

  • Connecticut land development and municipal permitting experience.
  • Additional experience with civil/stormwater design systems (beyond AutoCAD and HydroCAD).
  • Construction or field experience.
  • Experience preparing technical reports and drainage studies.
  • Prior consulting engineering or client-facing experience.

Compensation & Benefits

  • Salary range: $85,000 - $115,000 per year.
  • Professional education and licensing support (EIT, PE exam prep, continuing education).
  • Company-paid individual medical insurance premium; partial family plan contribution.
  • 401(k) retirement plan with company match.
  • Company-paid long-term disability insurance.
  • Flexible work schedule options, including the possibility of a four-day workweek or flexible arrangement within a 40-hour week.
  • Direct mentorship and development with senior-level engineers and office leadership.
  • Support for professional growth across civil engineering, surveying, permitting, stormwater, septic design, and project management.
