This position is ideal for an early-career civil engineer who has passed the FE exam and wants practical geotechnical experience in the field and office while logging qualifying experience toward a PE license.

You will spend time on active job sites performing soil investigations, support construction observation and testing, and assist with geotechnical analyses and report writing under the mentorship of licensed Professional Engineers.

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Perform engineering calculations and analyses for foundations, grading, earthwork, and slope stability.
  • Prepare field reports, technical memos, and portions of geotechnical reports.
  • Verify construction complies with project plans, specifications, and engineering recommendations.
  • Schedule and coordinate field and laboratory testing of soils and construction materials.
  • Contribute to proposals, scopes of work, cost estimates, and project planning.
  • Maintain thorough field notes, test records, and project files.
  • Collaborate daily with project managers, PEs, contractors, clients, and field staff, following applicable codes, standards, and safety practices.

What You’ll Bring

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering from an accredited program.
  • Passing score on the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam.
  • EIT registration or the ability to complete EIT certification.
  • Working knowledge of soil mechanics, civil engineering fundamentals, and construction practices.
  • Ability to read construction drawings, plans, and specifications.
  • Strong analytical and organizational skills; clear written and verbal communication.
  • Willingness and ability to work both on active job sites and in the office and travel to local projects.
  • Valid driver’s license.

Nice to Have

  • Internship, co‑op, or project experience in geotechnical engineering, construction, soils, or materials testing.
  • Hands‑on exposure to soil sampling, compaction testing, construction observation, or field inspection.
  • Experience with AutoCAD or Civil 3D.
  • Familiarity with geotechnical software such as GeoStudio or PLAXIS.
  • Knowledge of ASTM test methods or construction materials testing procedures.

Is This You?

You’re curious, dependable, and technically sharp. You’re comfortable in boots on a job site and at a desk working through calculations. You want a role that offers real development toward your PE license under the mentorship of experienced engineers.
