What You’ll Do
- Assist with engineering analysis, site design, field inspections, report writing, and permit applications.
- Support grading and stormwater designs for commercial, industrial, and residential site plans.
- Perform basic engineering calculations (hydraulics, traffic projections, piling/rebar checks, earthwork balancing).
- Assist with water and sewer system design for private and municipal projects.
- Communicate with clients to gather requirements and present technical information professionally.
- Support project planning, scheduling, and documentation to meet deadlines and budgets.
- Collaborate with senior engineers and multidisciplinary teams to develop practical solutions.
- Participate in quality control to ensure compliance with industry standards and client expectations.
- Keep up with industry developments and contribute to process improvements and innovation.
- Prioritize safety and interpret state/local design criteria for project-specific needs.
What You’ll Bring (Required)
- Bachelor of Science (BS) in Civil Engineering or equivalent.
- Basic skills or familiarity with AutoCAD Civil 3D; willingness and ability to complete training quickly.
- Knowledge of design techniques, tools, and the production of technical plans and specifications.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
- Attention to detail and solid problem-solving ability.
- Proficiency with MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook).
- Willingness to learn and adapt to new challenges.
- Ability to travel up to 5% with occasional overnight stays.
Preferred
- Prior internship experience in the building design or engineering consulting industry.
- Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification preferred.

Compensation
State of Virginia pay range (Fairfax, VA): $71,000–$76,000 base salary. Individual compensation will be determined by experience, education, skills, and licensure. Additional rewards may include bonuses and employee stock/ownership programs where applicable.
