Overview

Confidential Client is seeking an entry-level Civil / Environmental Engineer to support solid-waste and related environmental infrastructure projects based in Guadalupe, AZ. This contract-to-hire position combines office-based design and analysis with frequent field activities (drilling, monitoring, construction oversight). The role offers hybrid work when field presence is not required and strong opportunities for professional growth within an employee-focused engineering practice.

What You’ll Do

This role splits time roughly 50/50 between office and field work. Key responsibilities include:

• Assist project staff with drilling activities (probe and well installation, borehole logging, well development, monitoring, and sampling)
• Conduct and document construction quality-assurance observations and inspections to confirm compliance with plans and specifications
• Perform quality-control reviews of reports, drawings, calculations, and data prior to submission
• Coordinate activities with contractors, subcontractors, and clients to support project delivery
• Compile field and analytical data and contribute to technical reports (environmental site assessments, monitoring reports, groundwater and soil investigation reports, compliance reports)
• Assist with permit applications and regulatory agency submittals, including documentation gathering and regulatory research
• Prepare basic engineering calculations and support design documents
• Support landfill and landfill-gas system design efforts and prepare construction plans under supervision
• Participate in construction oversight: observe contractor work, document progress, and report issues
• Use AutoCAD and Civil 3D under supervision to produce engineering drawings and layouts
• Apply Microsoft Excel and Word to organize data, run basic analyses, and prepare technical documentation
• Contribute to wastewater distribution, landfill operations, and related environmental infrastructure projects as experience grows
• Engage in ongoing learning to build technical report-writing and regulatory compliance skills
• Collaborate closely with a local team to meet project schedules and quality standards

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering
• 3+ months of civil engineering work or internship experience (up to ~1 year preferred for entry-level)
• Interest in obtaining Engineer-in-Training (E.I.T.) certification soon
• Proficiency in AutoCAD (intermediate)
• Working knowledge of Microsoft Excel and Word (above average)
• Foundational ability in technical report writing
• Basic understanding of wastewater distribution systems
• Ability to support design and construction oversight for landfill and landfill-gas projects
• Ability to perform basic engineering calculations and compile technical data
• Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and walk over rough terrain regularly for field work
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to construction quality assurance
• Effective verbal and written communication skills for coordination with project teams and contractors
• Eligibility and willingness to work in Guadalupe, AZ and travel to project field sites in the region

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience using Civil 3D for design
• Prior work on landfill or solid-waste projects
• Experience with wastewater systems or environmental site assessments
• Exposure to emissions monitoring, groundwater/soil investigations, or regulatory compliance projects
• Familiarity preparing permit applications and agency submittals
• Interest in projects that reduce methane emissions, repurpose contaminated sites, support alternative energy, or carbon sequestration
• Desire to grow long-term with an employee-focused engineering firm

Work Environment & Schedule

• Hybrid work arrangement: expectation to be in the office at least once per week when not required in the field
• Approximately 50% office-based (design, analysis, reporting) and 50% field-based (drilling support, construction oversight, monitoring, sampling)
• Field work can include long outdoor days, walking over rough terrain, and lifting equipment or samples (~50 lbs)
• Team size: local office of ~10 engineers supporting regional projects

Compensation & Benefits

• Contract-to-hire; hourly pay range: $31.25 - $32.69 per hour
• Actual pay offered depends on qualifications, experience, location, and internal equity
