Child Life Specialist
The Child Life Specialist at Confidential Client provides specialized activities and interventions to support children and families coping with medical situations, addressing their developmental, emotional, and educational needs. This role involves preparing patients for procedures, participating in interdisciplinary teams, supervising assistants and interns, and contributing to program development and community outreach to enhance patient care.

What You’ll Do
Provide child- and family-centered activities and interventions to help pediatric patients and their families cope with medical experiences across care settings.
- Demonstrate age‑appropriate child life techniques for newborn, pediatric and adolescent patients, and adapt approaches to meet cultural and spiritual needs
- Provide therapeutic play, preparation and education for procedures and surgeries
- Observe, assess, and document psychosocial and developmental needs of children and families
- Participate in interdisciplinary rounds and communicate developmental and psychosocial concerns to the care team
- Oversee and mentor Patient Activity Assistants, volunteers, and potentially interns on assigned units
- Contribute to program development, community outreach, and grant-writing efforts
- Maintain professional competence through continuing education and evidence‑based practice
- Participate in planning and implementing special events, support groups and family‑focused programs
- Perform other duties as assigned
Qualifications
- Current Certification as a Child Life Specialist (as specified by policy; must be obtained within one year of hire if not held at start)
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification — American Heart Association or American Red Cross (Healthcare Provider)
- Bachelor’s degree in Child Life or related field
- Minimum 600‑hour clinical internship in Child Life
- Professional knowledge of Child Life theory and evidence‑based practice (play, preparation, assessment)
- Strong verbal and written communication skills and basic computer proficiency
- Ability to multitask, delegate, prioritize, and apply problem‑solving and critical thinking
- Preferred: at least one year of paid Child Life experience
