What You’ll Do

Provide child- and family-centered activities and interventions to help pediatric patients and their families cope with medical experiences across care settings.

• Demonstrate age‑appropriate child life techniques for newborn, pediatric and adolescent patients, and adapt approaches to meet cultural and spiritual needs
• Provide therapeutic play, preparation and education for procedures and surgeries
• Observe, assess, and document psychosocial and developmental needs of children and families
• Participate in interdisciplinary rounds and communicate developmental and psychosocial concerns to the care team
• Oversee and mentor Patient Activity Assistants, volunteers, and potentially interns on assigned units
• Contribute to program development, community outreach, and grant-writing efforts
• Maintain professional competence through continuing education and evidence‑based practice
• Participate in planning and implementing special events, support groups and family‑focused programs
• Perform other duties as assigned

Qualifications

• Current Certification as a Child Life Specialist (as specified by policy; must be obtained within one year of hire if not held at start)
• Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification — American Heart Association or American Red Cross (Healthcare Provider)
• Bachelor’s degree in Child Life or related field
• Minimum 600‑hour clinical internship in Child Life
• Professional knowledge of Child Life theory and evidence‑based practice (play, preparation, assessment)
• Strong verbal and written communication skills and basic computer proficiency
• Ability to multitask, delegate, prioritize, and apply problem‑solving and critical thinking
• Preferred: at least one year of paid Child Life experience
