What You’ll Do

Confidential Client is seeking an entry-level Child Life Specialist to join their pediatric care team in Stanford, CA. As a Child Life Specialist you will support children and families during hospitalization, procedures, and treatment by applying foundational child life theory and developmentally appropriate interventions.

• Provide pre- and post-procedural preparation and developmentally appropriate medical play.
• Deliver psychosocial support and distraction during procedures to reduce stress and improve coping.
• Design and implement individualized, family-centered plans of care in collaboration with the multidisciplinary team.
• Use therapeutic play, education, and coping-skills coaching to help children and families understand medical events.
• Document patient interactions and contribute to care-team communication and care planning.
• Participate in team meetings, training, and quality improvement or research activities.
• Support, orient, and supervise child life students and volunteers when applicable.
• Maintain professionalism, respect cultural diversity, and adhere to patient-safety and confidentiality standards.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Child Life, Child Development, Behavioral Sciences, Human Development, or a closely related field.
• Successful completion of a Child Life Internship meeting Association of Child Life Professionals (ACLP) requirements for Clinical Child Life Certification.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association or RQI Healthcare Provider Basic Life Support.
• Must obtain Certified Child Life Specialist (CCLS) credential from the ACLP within 365 days of hire.
• Strong communication, organizational, and teamwork skills.
• Ability to work effectively with children across developmental stages and with diverse families.
• Willingness to learn clinical routines, policies, and documentation standards.

Compensation & Benefits

California pay transparency: Hourly range for this role is $36.62 to $45.77 (minimum to midpoint). Final salary will be determined by education, relevant experience, internal equity, and alignment with market data.
