Overview

Confidential Client (Healthcare & Nursing) is seeking a Child Life Specialist to join their Child Life Team. This role plans, develops, and delivers child life programming to meet the psychosocial, emotional, and developmental needs of pediatric patients and their families. The position includes opportunities for professional growth, ACLP certification support, and, for qualified candidates, up to a $5,000 sign-on bonus and relocation assistance.

Key Responsibilities

• Evaluate children’s developmental stage, temperament, and ability to cope with medical care.
• Develop and implement plans to reduce fear and anxiety related to healthcare.
• Provide age-appropriate medical play, preparation for procedures, and coping strategies.
• Teach and support families and staff on developmentally appropriate interventions.
• Lead patients, families, and staff through coping strategies during procedures.
• Document child life interventions in the medical record according to policy.
• Maintain safe, therapeutic play environments; select and care for play materials following infection-control guidelines.
• Provide consultation to interdisciplinary teams on developmental and behavioral issues.
• Create resources and in-services for staff and community groups.
• Recruit, orient, schedule, and supervise Child Life volunteers.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Child Development, Education, Psychology, or a related field (required).
• Completion of a Child Life Internship (minimum 600 hours) under direct supervision of a Certified Child Life Specialist (required).
• Eligible for Certified Child Life Specialist credentialing within 18 months (ACLP) — department supports certification maintenance fees.
• Minimum 1 year related experience preferred.
• Strong communication skills and comfort working with children and families in clinical settings.
