What You’ll Do

A Confidential Client is seeking a Child Life Specialist, Associate to provide developmentally appropriate education, preparation and programming that optimizes growth and development for pediatric patients and minimizes psychosocial trauma associated with healthcare experiences.

  • Provide developmentally appropriate preparation, explanations and emotional support for medical procedures, hospitalization and transitions
  • Assess developmental and psychosocial needs, document findings and implement individualized child life care plans
  • Facilitate therapeutic play and activities that promote coping, emotional expression and understanding of healthcare experiences
  • Communicate patient needs and child development considerations to the healthcare team during rounds, documentation and care conferences
  • Support families through bereavement, loss and difficult conversations and connect them with appropriate services and resources
  • Build rapport with patients and families, orient them to the hospital environment and support healthy family and peer relationships

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Child Life, Child Development, Child and Family Studies, Psychology or a related healthcare major
  • Completion of a 600-hour Child Life internship under the direct supervision of a Certified Child Life Specialist (meets eligibility requirements to sit for the Child Life Professional Certification Examination)
  • Certified Child Life Specialist (CCLS) required within 1 year of hire
  • CPR and Basic Life Support (BLS) certifications as required; CPR per AHA standards (didactic + skills demonstration) within 30 days of hire
  • State-required background and child-clearance checks (Act 31 / Act 33 / Act 34 / Act 73 where applicable) with renewals as required
  • Strong communication, documentation and teamwork skills; ability to work sensitively with children and families during stressful clinical situations

Preferred

  • Experience delivering therapeutic play and family-centered psychosocial support in a pediatric healthcare setting

Schedule & Employment Type

  • Location: Bloomfield, PA (on-site)
  • Employment Type: Full-time (contract role possible as per client needs)
  • Typical Hours: Daylight hours, Monday–Friday; position may require 1 holiday and approximately 3 Saturdays per year
  • Note: Applicants will be placed at the appropriate job title and salary within the Child Life Specialist career ladder based on experience and education

Compensation

  • Estimated pay: $54,826 per year (estimated figure provided by source). Exact compensation will be determined by the Confidential Client based on experience, education and role placement.
