Position Overview
This hiring opportunity is for a hands‑on R&D chemist at a confidential client working on coatings and wood‑finishing products. Two levels are being recruited: Chemist I (early career / analytical focus) and Chemist II (experienced / formulation focus). The final level will be determined by education, experience, and demonstrated independence.
What You’ll Do
Chemist I (Analytical / Lab Support)
- Perform routine analytical testing and laboratory evaluations.
- Support color matching and product comparison activities.
- Prepare samples and run tests per established procedures.
- Record, organize, and communicate experimental results accurately.
- Assist senior chemists with formulation and development tasks.
- Maintain laboratory organization, equipment, and supplies.
- Follow laboratory quality and safety procedures.
- Collaborate with R&D team members on assigned projects.
Chemist II (Formulation / Development)
- Develop and optimize solvent‑borne coating formulations.
- Conduct formulation studies involving alkyd and amino chemistries with acid‑cure systems.
- Evaluate formulation performance and apply data‑driven adjustments.
- Perform analytical testing to characterize raw materials and finished products.
- Troubleshoot formulation and performance issues.
- Design and execute experiments with limited supervision.
- Document procedures and results using electronic laboratory documentation systems.
- Communicate findings and recommendations to R&D leadership and stakeholders.
- Maintain laboratory organization, equipment, and safety standards.
Qualifications
Chemist I
- Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry or a closely related scientific field.
- Prior internship or lab experience in an R&D or analytical setting.
- Strong attention to detail and documentation skills.
- Ability to follow procedures and work effectively under supervision.
- Interest in coatings, formulation chemistry, or analytical testing.
Chemist II
- Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry or a closely related scientific field.
- 3+ years of formulation or development experience with solvent‑borne coating systems.
- Direct experience with alkyd and amino chemistries and acid‑cure systems.
- Demonstrated ability to independently plan and run lab experiments.
- Strong analytical, troubleshooting, documentation, and communication skills.
- Coatings, specialty chemicals, or related industry experience preferred.
- Experience with electronic (or AI‑enabled) laboratory notebook systems is a plus.
Compensation & Benefits
- Chemist I: $28.00–$30.00 per hour (hourly range provided by confidential client)
- Chemist II: $40.00–$45.00 per hour (hourly range provided by confidential client)
