What You’ll Do

This confidential client is seeking a hands-on Chemist to perform gas analysis and quality control in a laboratory that supports medical and specialty gas products. This is a contract-to-hire, fully onsite role based in Dickson, TN, following a rotating DuPont shift schedule.

  • Perform analytical testing of gas samples for impurities using gas chromatography and spectroscopic techniques.
  • Connect and disconnect gas cylinders to analytical systems within ventilated cabinets; set up, run, monitor and document analysis (cylinder hook-up/removal may take up to 30 minutes per sample).
  • Operate and maintain GC/GCP-type gas chromatography systems using Galaxy/Compass GC control software.
  • Use Fourier Transform Infrared (FTIR) spectrometers and CO analyzers to identify and quantify gas components and trace impurities.
  • Enter, review, and maintain analytical results and records in the Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS).
  • Perform routine calibration, verification, and basic maintenance of analytical instruments.
  • Prepare and fill medical and specialty gas mixtures and pure gases using partial pressure and gravimetric techniques per established procedures.
  • Test and certify incoming raw materials and process finished products for conformance to specifications; prepare certificates of analysis.
  • Process cylinders for shipment (painting, labeling, valve prep) and follow safe handling and shipping practices.
  • Maintain complete quality control documentation in compliance with company and regulatory standards.
  • Participate in required safety training and support a safe, compliant laboratory environment.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry or Chemical Engineering OR a minimum of 2 years of analytical laboratory experience.
  • Hands-on experience in a chemistry or analytical laboratory with chemical handling.
  • Ability to perform chromatography-based analyses and operate GC/GCP-type systems.
  • Proficiency or demonstrated ability to learn Galaxy/Compass GC control software.
  • Familiarity with FTIR spectroscopy and CO analyzers for gas analysis.
  • Experience with, or ability to learn, LIMS for data management and documentation.
  • Knowledge of quality control principles and GMP concepts.
  • Ability to safely handle toxic and hazardous chemicals and follow PPE and safety procedures.
  • Strong attention to detail and good documentation practices.
  • Ability to work rotating shifts (days, nights, weekends, holidays) per a published schedule.
  • Physical capability to handle, move, and load gas cylinders safely.

Preferred / Nice-to-Have

  • Prior experience handling toxic chemicals and working in ventilated cabinet systems.
  • Experience with gas chromatography control software and GC system troubleshooting.
  • Knowledge of peak characteristics and chromatographic interpretation.
  • Experience with partial pressure and gravimetric techniques for gas mixture preparation.
  • Background as a laboratory technician, chemical engineer, or similar role.
  • Entry-level graduates with relevant internship or academic chemical handling experience are encouraged to apply.

Work Environment & Schedule

  • Fully onsite in a clean, organized chemistry laboratory dedicated to medical and specialty gas analysis.
  • Regular use of advanced analytical equipment: GC/GCP systems, Galaxy/Compass software, FTIR spectrometers, CO analyzers, and LIMS.
  • Routine handling of hazardous/toxic chemicals — strict adherence to safety procedures and PPE is required.
  • DuPont rotating shift schedule providing 24/7 coverage; schedule published in advance and includes extended blocks of time off compared to a standard Monday–Friday week.
  • The role supports professional growth with potential conversion to permanent employment based on performance.

Pay & Benefits

  • Pay range: $28.00 per hour (contract rate). Individual compensation will depend on qualifications, experience, geographic location, and other job-related factors.
  • If eligible, benefits for temporary employees may include: medical, dental & vision; 401(k) plan; life insurance (voluntary); short- and long-term disability; Health Savings Account (HSA); critical illness/accident/hospital coverage; transportation benefits; Employee Assistance Program; and PTO accrual (consultants may receive 40 hours PTO per six months of tenure).
