What You’ll Do

This role supports pediatric patients and their families by delivering developmentally appropriate therapeutic interventions, psychosocial support, and family-centered activities to help children cope during hospital stays.

• Provide one-on-one and group therapeutic play and coping interventions for pediatric patients.
• Plan and facilitate age-appropriate activities (therapeutic play, procedural preparation, holiday/birthday events).
• Offer psychosocial support and education to parents, siblings, and caregivers.
• Document interventions and progress in the electronic health record and communicate with the interdisciplinary care team.
• Assist with procedural preparation and support during medical procedures to reduce anxiety and distress.
• Participate in family-centered rounds and collaborate with nursing, medical, and allied health colleagues.
• Contribute to program development, outreach, and community resources for pediatric patients and families.

Minimum Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Child Life, Family Studies, Child Development, Counseling, Education, Psychology, or a related field that supports credentialing as a Certified Child Life Specialist.
• Certification from the Association of Child Life Professionals (CCLS) or eligibility to pursue certification.
• Understanding of child growth & development and pediatric psychosocial needs.
• Ability to use electronic charting systems to input and retrieve patient data.
• Strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
• Comfortable interacting with seriously ill children and their families across developmental stages.
• Entry-level candidates accepted; relevant trainings such as Death & Dying or Palliative Care workshops are a plus.

Preferred Qualifications

• Master’s degree in Child Life, Counseling, Education, or Psychology.
• 2–3 years’ experience working with children in healthcare settings.
• Demonstrated experience with procedural preparation, therapeutic play, and family education.
• Warm, outgoing personality with strong active listening and advocacy skills.

Compensation & Benefits

• Employment type: Full-time (40 hours/week), Day shift.
• Estimated base pay: $46,716 per year (estimated).
• Sign-on bonus: $5,000 (external candidates only; typically requires a 1-year commitment — confirm details during hiring).
