What You’ll Do

This role supports pediatric patients and their families by delivering therapeutic, developmentally appropriate interventions and psychosocial support during hospital stays.

• Provide direct therapeutic play and coping interventions for pediatric inpatients, including bedside and room-based services.
• Support family members with education and emotional support to encourage involvement in the child’s care and development.
• Plan and facilitate group activities and special events (holidays, birthday celebrations, family events) for patients and caregivers.
• Coordinate with interdisciplinary care teams to integrate child life programming into patient plans of care.
• Document interventions and patient contacts in the electronic charting system.
• Participate in training, workshops, and departmental meetings; maintain required certifications and continuing education.

Minimum Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Child Life, Family Studies, Counseling, Child Development, Education, or related field that supports credentialing as a Certified Child Life Specialist.
• Certification from the Association of Child Life Professionals (CCLS) or eligibility to obtain certification.
• Understanding of child growth and development and experience applying that knowledge in clinical settings.
• Ability to use electronic health record/charting systems to input and retrieve patient information.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills; ability to work effectively with children, siblings, parents, and multidisciplinary clinical teams.
• Entry-level experience acceptable; coursework or workshops in death & dying and palliative care are recommended.

Preferred Qualifications

• Master’s degree in Child Life, Counseling, Education, Psychology, or closely related discipline.
• 3+ years of experience working with children in healthcare or clinical environments.
• Demonstrated ability to support seriously ill children across developmental stages and their families.
• Warm, outgoing demeanor with excellent listening and relationship-building skills.

Compensation & Benefits

• Estimated base salary: $46,994 per year (estimated figure from source posting).
• Sign-on bonus: $5,000 (external candidates only; 1-year commitment required).
• Benefits: flexible benefits package to support family, financial, and personal well-being (medical, retirement, paid time off and other benefits typical for healthcare employers).
• Employment type: Full-time; Days shift; 40 hours per week.
