Position Overview

Confidential Client is seeking a Certified Athletic Trainer (PRN) to provide athletic training and sports medicine services supporting local high school athletic programs in Hopedale, IL. This PRN role covers home events and supports injury prevention, evaluation, treatment, rehabilitation, and safe return-to-play decisions in collaboration with clinicians, coaches, families, and athletic staff.


Compensation & Key Perks

  • Competitive PRN pay: $40.00–$50.00 per hour
  • $2.00 per hour evening differential for hours worked after 6:00 p.m.

What You’ll Do

  • Provide athletic training coverage for local high school home athletic events (games, practices, tournaments).
  • Evaluate and assess acute and overuse athletic injuries; communicate findings and recommendations to appropriate healthcare professionals.
  • Assist with injury prevention, on-site treatment, rehabilitation, conditioning, and return-to-participation plans.
  • Monitor athletes’ recovery and coordinate recommendations with physicians and healthcare team members.
  • Communicate injury status, treatment plans, and activity restrictions to athletes, families, coaches, and athletic directors.
  • Maintain accurate, timely documentation of injuries, treatments, and rehabilitation activities.
  • Provide age-appropriate education to student-athletes on injury prevention, safety, and self-care.
  • Support athletic training outreach and community sports medicine activities as needed.

Professional Responsibilities & Compliance

  • Maintain patient confidentiality and comply with HIPAA requirements and applicable regulations.
  • Follow Confidential Client policies and professional standards.
  • Participate in continuing education and maintain current knowledge of athletic training and sports medicine best practices.
  • Demonstrate professionalism, dependability, and strong judgment in high-pressure event settings.
  • Perform other duties as assigned consistent with the scope of practice.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree (or entry-level Master’s) in Athletic Training from an accredited program.
  • Current Board of Certification (BOC) certification.
  • Current Illinois Athletic Trainer license or eligibility to obtain Illinois licensure.
  • Current CPR/AED certification or ability to obtain upon hire.
  • Strong knowledge of anatomy, physiology, injury assessment, prevention, rehabilitation, and therapeutic techniques.
  • Ability to provide safe, age-appropriate care for student-athletes.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; ability to work with athletes, families, coaches, athletic directors, and physicians.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Authorized to work in the United States (employment contingent upon verification of eligibility).

Preferred Qualifications

  • 1–2 years of athletic training experience preferred.
  • Previous experience working with high school athletic programs.
  • Event coverage experience (games, practices, tournaments).
  • Experience collaborating with physicians or working in a healthcare environment.

Schedule & Work Conditions

  • This is a PRN (as-needed) position; schedule is based on athletic event coverage and departmental needs. Hours are not guaranteed and will vary.
  • Availability for evenings, weekends, games, practices, tournaments, and other scheduled athletic activities is required.
  • Work is performed primarily in athletic and community settings (fields, gymnasiums, training rooms). Employee may be exposed to variable weather, uneven surfaces, physical activity, infectious materials, and other hazards; appropriate PPE will be provided as needed.

Physical Requirements

  • Constant (67–100%): standing, walking, talking, hearing, near visual acuity, use of hands/fingers for patient care and equipment operation.
  • Frequent (34–66%): bending, stooping, reaching, pushing, pulling, crouching, kneeling, moving through athletic settings.
  • Frequent assistance with positioning, supporting, and stabilizing athletes during evaluation, treatment, and emergency care.
  • Occasional (11–33%): lifting and carrying training equipment and supplies.
  • Reasonable accommodations available for qualified individuals with disabilities.
