What You’ll Do

The Certified Athletic Trainer provides athletic training and sports‑medicine services to local student‑athletes and community patients, including injury prevention, evaluation, treatment, rehabilitation, and safe return‑to‑play decisions. This full‑time role also may function as a Physician Extender in client clinics when needed, providing clinical support within applicable scope of practice.

  • Provide athletic training coverage for high‑school athletic programs, games, practices, tournaments, and special events.
  • Evaluate and assess athletic injuries and illnesses; communicate findings and recommended plans to athletes, families, coaches, and providers.
  • Develop and implement injury‑prevention, treatment, rehabilitation, and conditioning programs.
  • Monitor progress during treatment and rehabilitation and adjust plans as appropriate.
  • Assist physicians and clinical staff as a Physician Extender when assigned, including patient assessments, documentation, and patient education.
  • Maintain accurate, HIPAA‑compliant records of evaluations, treatments, and return‑to‑play decisions.
  • Coordinate coverage with athletic directors, coaches, and clinical teams.
  • Participate in outreach, education, coaches’ clinics, and community sports‑medicine initiatives.
  • Work evenings, weekends, and variable hours as required by athletic schedules or clinical assignments.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree (or entry‑level Master’s) in Athletic Training from an accredited program.
  • Current Board of Certification (BOC) certification.
  • Current Illinois Athletic Trainer license or eligibility to obtain Illinois licensure.
  • Current CPR/AED certification or ability to obtain upon hire.
  • Strong clinical assessment, decision‑making, and documentation skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for working with athletes, families, coaches, and healthcare teams.
  • Ability to provide age‑appropriate care across youth and adolescent populations.
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to manage competing priorities.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of an interdisciplinary healthcare team.
  • Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and events.

Preferred

  • Prior experience with high‑school or collegiate athletic programs.
  • Experience in sports medicine, orthopedics, rehabilitation, or outpatient clinical settings.
  • Experience serving as a physician extender or providing clinical support in a healthcare setting.
  • Additional certifications or continuing‑education in sports medicine or related areas.

Compensation & Benefits

  • Base pay: $27.00–$30.00 per hour.
  • $2.00 per hour evening differential for hours worked after 6:00 p.m.
  • Mileage reimbursement at current IRS rate.

Work Environment

Work is performed in athletic and healthcare settings including high‑school athletic facilities, athletic fields, gymnasiums, training rooms, and client clinics. The role may be exposed to weather conditions, uneven surfaces, athletic injuries, infectious diseases, bodily fluids, and other healthcare hazards. Personal protective equipment (PPE) will be provided and must be used per policy.

Employment is contingent on successful completion of applicable federal and state background checks and a pre‑employment drug and alcohol screen. The confidential client’s drug‑screening policy includes testing for substances consistent with organizational requirements and applicable law.
