Certified Athletic Trainer, Full-time
The Certified Athletic Trainer provides comprehensive athletic training and sports medicine services to student-athletes, including injury prevention, evaluation, treatment, and rehabilitation. This role also supports physicians as a Physician Extender in clinical settings and requires collaboration with athletes, families, coaches, and healthcare professionals. What You’ll Do
The Certified Athletic Trainer provides athletic training and sports medicine services to local student‑athletes, including prevention, evaluation, treatment, rehabilitation, and return‑to‑play recommendations. This role also supports clinic care as a physician‑extender when needed, working with physicians and clinical staff within the appropriate scope of practice. The position requires flexibility to cover practices, games, tournaments, and other events, including evenings and weekends.
Responsibilities
- Provide athletic training coverage for high school athletic programs (games, practices, tournaments).
- Evaluate and manage athletic injuries and illnesses; communicate findings and recommendations to athletes, parents, coaches, and medical staff.
- Develop and implement injury prevention, treatment, rehabilitation, and conditioning plans.
- Help determine and communicate safe return‑to‑participation recommendations in collaboration with physicians and other clinicians.
- Monitor athlete progress during treatment and rehabilitation and document outcomes.
- Maintain accurate, timely documentation of evaluations, treatments, and rehab activities.
- Educate athletes, families, coaches, and staff on injury prevention, safety, and rehabilitation.
- Coordinate coverage and services with athletic directors and coaching staff.
- Support outreach programs, coaches’ clinics, and community sports medicine initiatives.
- Serve as a physician extender in clinic settings as needed: conduct patient assessments, assist clinical staff, document care, and support patient education within scope of practice.
- Communicate and collaborate effectively with physicians, nurses, therapists, and other healthcare team members.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Required
- Bachelor’s degree or entry‑level Master’s degree in Athletic Training from an accredited program.
- Current Board of Certification (BOC) certification.
- Current Illinois Athletic Trainer license or eligibility to obtain Illinois licensure.
- Current CPR/AED certification or ability to obtain on hire.
- Strong clinical assessment, decision‑making, and documentation skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with athletes, families, coaches, and healthcare teams.
- Ability to provide age‑appropriate, individualized care.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
- Willingness to work evenings, weekends, and travel to events as required.
Preferred
- Prior experience with high school or collegiate athletic programs.
- Experience in sports medicine, orthopedics, rehabilitation, or outpatient clinical settings.
- Experience serving as a physician extender or providing clinical support in a healthcare setting.
- Additional certifications or specialized training in sports medicine or related areas.
Compensation & Benefits
- Competitive pay: $27.00–$30.00 per hour.
- $2.00 per hour evening differential for hours worked after 6:00 p.m.
- Mileage reimbursement at the current IRS rate.

Physical Demands & Work Environment
- Constantly (67–100%): standing, walking, talking, hearing, near visual acuity, use of hands/fingers for patient care and documentation.
- Frequently (34–66%): bending, stooping, reaching, pushing, pulling, crouching, kneeling, moving across athletic/clinical environments.
- Occasionally (11–33%): lifting and carrying equipment/supplies.
- May require assisting with positioning/transfers, responding quickly to athletic injuries, and performing emergency care tasks as needed.
- Work performed in indoor and outdoor settings (fields, gymnasiums, training rooms, clinics). PPE provided as required.
