Overview
Confidential Client (Healthcare & Nursing) is hiring an entry-level Caseworker Trainee (37.5 FT) in Lancaster, PA for the Crisis Intervention Unit. This is a full-time position with a starting compensation of $42,841.50/year and a $5,000 sign-on bonus. Employees who successfully complete a six-month probation are promoted to the Caseworker classification. This role includes formal and on-the-job training in crisis intervention and case management within a 24/7 behavioral health program.
What You’ll Do
- Participate in formal and informal agency training covering policies, procedures, and the Mental Health Procedures Act.
- Support individuals in crisis by providing short-term interventions and linking them to community resources.
- Shadow and accompany experienced staff on crisis outreaches to hospitals, police departments, and community locations.
- Assist with voluntary and involuntary mental health commitments as appropriate.
- Respond to incoming crisis calls and provide telephone or in-person crisis counseling.
- Learn to document crisis notes, complete referrals, and maintain case records in electronic systems.
- Attend staff meetings, case reviews, intake assessments, and utilization reviews.
- Provide transportation to appointments and outreach visits as needed.
- Work rotating shifts and participate in holiday/essential-staff coverage when scheduled.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree that includes, or is supplemented by, 12 college credits in sociology, social welfare, psychology, gerontology, criminal justice, or a related social science; OR
- An equivalent combination of education and experience that includes 12 college credits in the fields listed above.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Basic knowledge of social case management principles, techniques, and methods.
- Understanding of social, economic, and health issues that impact individuals and families.
- Ability to learn and apply relevant laws, regulations and agency policies (including the Mental Health Procedures Act).
- Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively with adults who may be physically challenged, emotionally distressed, or economically disadvantaged.
- Ability to plan, organize work, maintain accurate records, and manage a caseload under supervision.
- Clear oral and written communication skills and basic comfort with technology (computer, mobile devices).
Required Clearances & Licenses
- Must pass pre-employment drug screening.
- Must obtain and maintain acceptable background clearances prior to start date, which may include:
- Childline Child Abuse History Clearance
- PA State Police Criminal Record Clearance
- FBI fingerprint clearance
- All clearances must be current (not more than one year old at the time of employment).
- Valid driver’s license and acceptable driving history per Confidential Client policy.
Physical Requirements & Work Environment
- Work in busy office and community settings; reasonable accommodations available for qualified individuals.
- Must be able to provide routine transportation to consumers’ homes and community locations.
- Role has potential exposure to Hepatitis B; training and voluntary vaccination are provided.
- Must be able to participate in rotating shifts and essential-staff coverage (including holidays and inclement weather).
Compensation & Benefits
- Starting Compensation: $42,841.50 per year.
