About the Role

Confidential Client is seeking an energetic Career Counselor to join a Workforce Opportunities Program serving vulnerable young adults in Manhattan, New York. The Career Counselor will deliver career counseling, outreach, placement support, and on-the-job retention services to help participants reach employment and educational goals. This role combines direct client work, employer engagement, and collaboration with a multidisciplinary team.

Compensation & Location

Confidential Client (Manhattan, New York)

• Salary: $53,000 — $55,000 per year (annualized)
• Employment type: FULL_TIME (Non-exempt)
• Location: New York, NY — travel throughout the five boroughs required

Key Responsibilities

• Provide career counseling services to approximately 70 young adults to prepare for and secure employment.
• Complete and regularly update employment and education assessments and individualized service plans.
• Collaborate with participants to set and achieve education, training, and employment goals.
• Help participants build job-readiness portfolios (resumes, interview prep, job inquiry letters).
• Respond promptly to job leads and work closely with Employment Specialists to match participants to openings.
• Assist participants with independent job search and make direct employer referrals.
• Support outreach and recruitment to meet enrollment targets; manage communications with partner organizations.
• Design creative, low-cost enrollment and engagement strategies to boost program participation.
• Identify and refer participants to training, HSE, ESOL, college, and other education resources.
• Provide job retention and follow-up services for employed participants, including biweekly check-ins and progress notes.
• Use community resources to support job search, retention, and re-placement efforts.
• Participate in case conferences, monthly program meetings, and maintain required data in agency systems.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree required.
• Experience in workforce development and service delivery for low-income young adults strongly preferred.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills and strong computer literacy.
• Demonstrated ability to conduct high-level outreach and build community partnerships.
• Experience providing supported employment services to individuals with disabilities preferred.
• Working knowledge of AWARDS and familiarity with Motivational Interviewing and person-centered planning are highly desirable.
• Able to work collaboratively in a team environment to meet performance outcomes.
• Must be able to travel throughout the five boroughs.

• Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
• Must be able to speak, hear, see, write, and use a computer and related software.
• Local travel across NYC required; occasional longer weekday/weekend commitments may be necessary.
