Position overview

Confidential Client is seeking a technically minded Buyer in Springfield, MO to support procurement of complex mechanical, electrical, and bioprocess equipment used in biopharmaceutical manufacturing. This role partners closely with Engineering, Design, Project Management, and Global Supply Chain to source custom-engineered parts, review engineering drawings and BOMs, manage vendor relationships, and negotiate commercial terms for long‑lead items.

  • Location: Springfield, MO (onsite; travel to vendor sites as needed)

What You’ll Do

  • Source and procure complex, custom-engineered mechanical and electrical components, structural fabrications, and specialized bioprocess systems.
  • Review and interpret engineering drawings, P&IDs, schematics, and BOMs to ensure supplier quotes meet technical specifications.
  • Evaluate supplier technical capabilities, manufacturing capacity, quality controls and lead times.
  • Negotiate pricing, delivery schedules, payment terms, warranties, and return policies for specialized equipment.
  • Maintain and improve vendor relationships; track on-time delivery, quality metrics, and compliance with industrial standards.
  • Coordinate with Mechanical and Electrical Design Engineering to resolve part-number or documentation discrepancies.
  • Provide proactive timeline updates to Project Managers for long‑lead engineering items.
  • Support Sales/Product teams by obtaining competitive, detailed technical quotations during proposal efforts.
  • Identify opportunities for supplier-led technical trainings (Lunch & Learns) and other knowledge-sharing initiatives.
  • Work with Global Supply Chain to improve procurement workflows and leverage ERP/MRP systems.
  • Adhere to safety protocols, quality management processes, and regulatory compliance requirements.
  • Travel to vendor facilities for technical audits or inspections as required.

Qualifications

  • BS in Mechanical, Electrical, Industrial Engineering, Supply Chain Management (technical focus), or equivalent technical degree.
  • 1–5 years procurement experience in highly technical manufacturing, biotechnology, industrial equipment, or heavy engineering environments (internships count).
  • Proven ability to read mechanical blueprints, electrical schematics, and P&IDs.
  • Strong command of ERP/MRP platforms (Infor SyteLine experience is a plus) and advanced Excel skills for BOM analysis.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills to translate technical requirements between internal engineering teams and external vendors.
  • Self-starter with strong organization, analytical problem-solving, and adaptability in fast‑moving project environments.
  • Willingness to travel for vendor audits and inspections.
