Buyer I
The Buyer I position in Confidential Client's Finance Department is responsible for managing procurement activities including issuing purchase orders, coordinating with departments to determine purchasing needs, and ensuring compliance with procurement policies. The role involves vendor management, preparing procurement documents, and maintaining procurement records in an office environment. This position requires experience in purchasing and proficiency in basic office software, supporting efficient and compliant acquisition of goods and services for the county.

Compensation & Benefits
Salary: $55,000–$60,000 per year
Employment type: Full-time

Key Responsibilities
- Assist departments to determine the appropriate procurement method and translate procurement needs into RFPs, RFQs, or IFBs
- Coordinate and maintain records for all procurements and related documentation
- Process purchasing requests and issue purchase orders to vendors
- Obtain and compare pricing in accordance with procurement policy; ensure documents and contracts comply with regulations
- Coordinate with internal departments to confirm requirements for commodities and services
- Summarize supplier proposals and assist in identifying potential sources of supply
- Assemble information for preparation of proposals and specifications; consult with departments regarding orders, requisitions, and confirmations
- Identify vendors to receive price requests
Minimum Requirements
Requirements include the following experience or an equivalent combination of training and experience:
- Completion of an Associate’s degree in Business or a related field
- Three (3) years of experience purchasing supplies, equipment, and services — OR — four (4) years in an entry-level purchasing position (non-clerical)
- Valid Illinois driver’s license
Additional mandatory requirements:
- Passing score on a basic Excel and Word assessment
- Successful completion of a pre-employment background check
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Business or a related field
- Prior experience with public-sector or government procurement processes (preferred)
Physical Requirements & Work Environment
- Sedentary work: primarily office-based, involving sitting most of the time and occasional lifting of items up to 10 pounds
- Position is typically not exposed to adverse environmental conditions
