Overview

This Business Development Coordinator role is a hybrid business-development and recruiting position based in Costa Mesa, CA. You will support pursuit activities across Southern California and help source and screen candidates for entry-level and field roles. You will report to the Business Development Specialist and collaborate with principals, project managers, and construction services leadership.

What You’ll Do

Business Development (≈50%)

  • Research and track Southern California public-agency opportunities (CIPs, council agendas, planning documents, bid/RFQ postings).
  • Screen incoming leads for fit and route opportunities to the appropriate principal or project manager with supporting research.
  • Build competitive intelligence on firms that win civil and geotechnical work with target agencies.
  • Maintain accurate opportunity, client, and contact records in the lead-tracking system.
  • Prepare for and participate in weekly proposals and business development meetings.
  • Support client outreach and relationship building with agencies, prime consultants, and contractors.
  • Coordinate and attend industry conferences, association events, and client meetings.

Recruiting Support (≈40%)

  • Partner with the Business Development Specialist to manage open requisitions, with emphasis on entry-level and field roles (engineering technicians, inspectors, interns, staff engineers/geologists).
  • Source candidates using LinkedIn, job boards, referrals, and university partnerships.
  • Post openings, screen applicants, conduct initial phone screens, and schedule interviews.
  • Maintain candidate pipelines and records in JazzHR (or designated ATS).
  • Coordinate interview feedback and next steps with hiring managers.
  • Represent the client at career fairs and campus events across Southern California.

Operational Support (≈10%)

  • Provide light administrative support to the Costa Mesa office as needed.
  • Assist on special projects spanning business development, recruiting, and HR.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Marketing, Communications, Human Resources, or related field — or equivalent experience.
  • 1–3 years experience in business development, recruiting, sales, or similar client-/candidate-facing roles.
  • Ability to travel throughout Southern California; occasional overnight stays required.
  • Valid California driver’s license and reliable transportation.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams).
  • Strong research, organization, and time-management skills; able to manage multiple priorities with minimal supervision.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; works well with engineers, field staff, and leadership.
  • Experience with applicant tracking systems (JazzHR or similar) and candidate sourcing tools preferred.

Working Conditions

This is a field-forward role. Expect a split between in-office work in Costa Mesa (Mon–Fri, typical business hours) and regular travel across Southern California for client outreach, industry events, and campus/career-fair representation. Occasional evening or weekend events may be required.

Compensation & Benefits

  • Estimated base salary: $41,936 per year (estimated).
  • Comprehensive benefits package including employer-paid medical (where offered), dental and vision, 401(k) with company match, paid holidays, and PTO.
  • Additional perks: monthly cell-phone reimbursement, professional membership dues/licensure fees (case-by-case), FE/EIT/PE exam reimbursement, access to HSA/FSA/EAP resources.
  • Most benefits begin the first of the month after a 90-day introductory period.
