What You’ll Do

The Business Data Analyst turns operational and product data into clear, actionable analysis that guides product decisions, improves business performance, and identifies automation opportunities. You will work across warehouse tables, event streams, and business systems to define metrics, diagnose changes in performance, and deliver trusted reporting and self‑service analytics.

  • Build and maintain analytical datasets and recurring reports using production-quality SQL (Snowflake or BigQuery) and dbt.
  • Define and document business metrics, KPI logic, and source-of-truth data models with product and operations partners.
  • Develop dashboards and self-service reporting in Looker, Tableau, or Power BI for product, revenue, customer, and operational performance.
  • Analyze trends, cohorts, funnels, and experiment results with SQL and Python to identify drivers and quantify impact.
  • Investigate data discrepancies across warehouse tables, events, and business systems and work with data engineers to resolve root causes.
  • Automate recurring analyses and reporting workflows with Python, scheduled queries, and modern orchestration tools.
  • Present concise findings and recommendations to technical and nontechnical audiences, clearly separating observed results from assumptions and limitations.

Minimum Qualifications

  • 1–3 years of experience in business analytics, data analysis, product analytics, or a related role.
  • Advanced SQL skills (complex joins, window functions, CTEs, data validation, query optimization).
  • Experience building governed dashboards and reporting in Looker, Tableau, Power BI, or equivalent BI platforms.
  • Working proficiency in Python for analysis (pandas, basic statistical testing, visualization).
  • Familiarity with cloud data warehouses (Snowflake, BigQuery, or Redshift) and dbt/dimensional modeling concepts.
  • Strong communication skills: clarify ambiguous requests, document metric definitions, and deliver decision-ready analysis.

Preferred / Nice-to-Have

  • Experience with experimentation and causal analysis.
  • Familiarity with Amplitude, Segment, Airflow, Git, or modern data orchestration tools.
  • Degree in statistics, economics, mathematics, computer science, business analytics, or related field.

Location & Work Model

  • Based in: Chicago, IL (role is remote-eligible / TELECOMMUTE; local candidates preferred).
  • Applicants must be authorized to work in the United States.
  • Careertakes supports applicants across states; the final employer will follow local hiring and employment laws for the role location.

  • Opportunity to grow technical skills (SQL, Python, dbt, cloud warehouses) and to expand into experimentation and causal work.
  • Access to Careertakes’ platform of matched opportunities if you’d like other placements.
