Position summary

Confidential Client is seeking a Building Floater / CDA Specialist to support multiple classrooms in early childhood and Head Start programs in Norwalk, CT. This part-time hourly role assists Lead Teachers with classroom routines, curriculum support, meals, supervision, and other daily activities for children ages 6 months to 5 years.


What You’ll Do

This role supports high-quality early learning by assisting Lead Teachers across classrooms as needs arise.

  • Assist multiple classrooms with daily routines, lesson support, and transitions.
  • Support small-group and one-on-one learning activities under teacher direction.
  • Help administer and record basic assessments and classroom observations.
  • Supervise children during meals, play, rest, emergency drills, and field trips.
  • Aid with non-instructional tasks: snack/lunch, toileting, clothing routines, and basic clerical duties.
  • Maintain confidentiality and follow program policies, including Head Start Performance Standards.
  • Participate in required professional development and program training.
  • Perform other duties as assigned to support program operations.

Qualifications

Minimum requirements:

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Child Development Associate (CDA) Certificate OR commitment to obtain a CDA within 1 year of hire (employer-paid).
  • Basic computer skills (email, data entry, word processing).
  • Ability to lift up to 40 lbs and perform duties involving standing, stooping, and walking.
  • Reliable transportation to assigned sites; valid driver’s license and vehicle insurance preferred.
  • Strong communication skills in English; bilingual candidates (Spanish or Portuguese) strongly encouraged.

Preferred:

  • Early Childhood Education coursework or Associate/Bachelor degree.
  • Previous childcare experience (babysitting, daycare, Head Start) a plus.
  • Comfort working with children ages 6 months–5 years and following health & safety procedures.

Health & safety:

  • Up-to-date documentation free of communicable diseases (e.g., TB, COVID) as required.
  • Fit-for-duty exam may be required prior to start.

Compensation & Benefits

  • Hourly pay: $16.94 – $17.94 per hour.
  • Competitive compensation plus a comprehensive benefits package (health care coverage and retirement program available where applicable).
  • Employer-paid CDA training within first year of employment (per program policy).

Work Schedule & Location

  • Location: Norwalk, CT (multiple Head Start / early learning sites as assigned).
  • Part-time / hourly schedule; classification: Non-exempt.
  • Typical environment: 70% indoors (climate-controlled), 30% outdoors; may involve exposure to routine classroom cleaning supplies and bodily fluids typical in childcare settings.
