Overview

Confidential Client is hiring full-time, entry-level Border Patrol Agents (BPA) — GL-5 and GL-7 grade levels — for mission-critical duty locations. This federal law enforcement career includes paid academy training, a structured career-ladder (GL-5 → GL-7 → GL-9 → GS-11 → GS-12), comprehensive federal benefits, locality pay where applicable, and recruitment/retention incentives totaling up to $60,000.


Salary & Benefits

  • Annual base salary range for new hires (GL-5 / GL-7): $51,632 – $92,912 per year (grade-dependent)
  • Eligibility for federal benefits: health, dental, retirement plans (Thrift Savings Plan), paid annual/sick leave
  • Locality and law-enforcement pay differentials may increase total compensation (some fully trained BPAs may be eligible for up to an additional 25% of base pay)
  • Employment type: Full-time

Incentives

  • Recruitment incentive: Up to $20,000 (first $10,000 paid after successful completion of the Border Patrol Academy; remaining $10,000 for accepting a prioritized location)
  • Retention incentive: Up to $40,000 distributed over the first four years for qualifying new hires
  • Total potential incentives: Up to $60,000 (depending on location and eligibility)

Duty Locations

Candidates will select preferred mission-critical locations during the process, but final duty assignments are made based on operational needs and may require relocation. Prioritized locations (eligible for additional incentives) include, for example, Sierra Blanca, Presidio, Sanderson, Comstock, Lordsburg, Freer, Hebbronville, and Ajo. Other sectors and stations across multiple states are also included.


What You’ll Do

As a Border Patrol Agent with Confidential Client you will:

  • Detect, question, and inspect people and belongings to determine immigration and customs compliance
  • Prevent and apprehend undocumented noncitizens and smugglers using surveillance, interdiction, and patrol techniques (day/night operations)
  • Interpret and follow tracks, marks, and other evidence of illegal entry
  • Conduct farm checks, building checks, traffic checks, city patrols, and transportation checks
  • Patrol international boundaries and coastal waterways using vehicles, horses, vessels, ATVs, motorcycles, and other government assets

Minimum Qualifications

You may qualify at GL-5 or GL-7 as described below.

GL-5 (examples — meet one):

  • One year of general work experience demonstrating decision-making, composure under stress, ability to learn regulations/methods, and information-gathering skills; OR
  • A bachelor’s degree (any field) from an accredited college/university; OR
  • A combination of experience and education (evaluated from resume and transcripts)

GL-7 (examples — meet one):

  • One year of specialized work experience showing ability to:
    • Make sound firearms judgments,
    • Deal effectively and courteously in law enforcement situations,
    • Analyze information rapidly and make prompt decisions (arrest authority after training); OR
  • A bachelor’s degree with superior academic achievement or one year of relevant graduate-level study (criminal justice, homeland security, forensic technology, etc.); OR
  • A combination of specialized experience and education

Note: Candidates with prior federal or military law enforcement experience may qualify at higher grade levels (GL-9 / GS-11) — review related announcements if applicable.


Other Requirements & Training

  • U.S. Citizenship required
  • Must have been a primary U.S. resident for at least 3 of the last 5 years
  • Applicants must be referred for selection before turning 40 unless an exception applies (e.g., prior federal civilian LEO service or Veterans’ Preference eligibility)
  • Successful candidates will attend approximately six months of intensive training at the Border Patrol Academy (Artesia, NM) — curriculum includes law, driver training, physical techniques, firearms, and Spanish language training
  • Ability to read and speak English; training will be provided to build Spanish proficiency
  • Background checks, medical and fitness standards, and other federal clearance requirements apply
