What You’ll Do

Confidential Client is hiring full-time, entry-level Border Patrol Agents (BPA) to join a federal law enforcement team protecting the nation’s borders. As a BPA you will:

  • Detect, question, and inspect people and property to enforce immigration and customs laws
  • Conduct patrols and surveillance on foot, vehicle, horseback, watercraft, ATV, and other assets
  • Use night-vision/IR equipment and covert observation techniques to deter and apprehend smugglers
  • Interpret physical evidence (tracks, marks) to locate and intercept illegal entry
  • Conduct farm checks, building checks, traffic stops, transportation and city patrols
  • Arrest and process individuals in accordance with federal law and agency procedures

Salary & Benefits

  • Annual base salary for newly appointed BPAs (grade GL-5 / GL-7): $51,632 – $92,912 per year
  • Estimated midpoint / local variations may apply based on duty location and locality pay
  • Recruitment incentive: up to $20,000 (first $10,000 at Academy graduation; additional $10,000 for accepting a prioritized location)
  • Retention incentives: up to $40,000 distributed over the first four years for eligible hires
  • Federal benefits: health, dental, retirement (Thrift Savings Plan), generous annual and sick leave, and other federal employee benefits

Duty Locations & Assignment Notes

Duty assignments may include locations along the Southwest Border and other mission-critical sectors. You will be asked to select preferred locations, but final assignments are determined by operational needs. Relocation may be required.

  • Big Bend Sector: Presidio, Van Horn, Sanderson, Alpine, Sierra Blanca, Marfa
  • Del Rio Sector: Del Rio, Brackettville, Comstock, Eagle Pass, Carrizo Springs, Uvalde
  • El Paso Sector: Alamogordo, Clint, Deming, El Paso, Fort Hancock, Las Cruces, Lordsburg, Santa Teresa
  • Tucson Sector: Ajo, Tucson, Nogales, Douglas, Sonoita, Casa Grande
  • Yuma Sector: Blythe, Yuma, Wellton

Qualifications — Minimum Requirements

You must meet one of the qualification paths for the indicated grade level:

GL-5 (entry-level) — one of:

  • One year of general work experience demonstrating decision-making, composure under stress, and the ability to learn on the job; OR
  • A bachelor’s degree (or full four-year course of study from an accredited college/university); OR
  • A combination of experience and education (calculated from resume and transcripts)

GL-7 — one of:

  • One year of specialized work experience showing ability to exercise sound judgment with firearms, interact courteously in law enforcement contexts, rapidly analyze information and make arrests after required training; OR
  • A bachelor’s degree with superior academic achievement or one year of related graduate study; OR
  • A combination of specialized experience and education (documented by resume/transcripts)

Other Legal & Eligibility Requirements

  • U.S. Citizenship is required.
  • Residency: primary U.S. residency for at least 3 of the last 5 years.
  • Age: Candidates must be referred for selection before their 40th birthday (subject to federal law enforcement retirement provisions). Exceptions may apply for certain prior federal law enforcement service or Veterans’ Preference eligibilities.
  • Formal training: Selected candidates will attend the Border Patrol Academy (Artesia, NM) for ~6 months of intensive instruction (laws, driver training, firearms, tactics, physical techniques).
  • Language: Border Patrol work requires the ability to speak/read Spanish and English; language training is provided at the Academy.
  • Background checks, medical and fitness standards, and other pre-employment screenings apply.

Preferred / Helpful Experience

  • Prior experience in law enforcement, security, military police, corrections, or related public safety roles
  • Experience using firearms and making sound use-of-force decisions
  • Field surveillance, tracking, or patrol experience
  • Spanish language skills (formal or conversational)
  • Ability to work irregular hours, in remote locations, and in physically demanding conditions
