Role Overview
Confidential Client is recruiting full‑time Border Patrol Agents (entry level — GL‑5/GL‑7 grade ladder) for federal law enforcement assignments in the region. This is a career federal law enforcement role that includes academy training, field duties, competitive base pay, comprehensive benefits, and up to $60,000 in hiring/retention incentives for qualified candidates.
Salary & Benefits
- Annual base pay for newly appointed BPAs (GL‑5 / GL‑7): $51,632 – $92,912 per year (grade-dependent).
- Estimated midpoint for similar openings: ~$78,652 per year.
- Up to $20,000 recruitment incentive (split across academy graduation and prioritized-location acceptance).
- Potential additional retention incentives up to $40,000 distributed over the first four years.
- Federal benefits package including health/dental plans, generous annual and sick leave, and participation in the Thrift Savings Plan (retirement savings).
What You’ll Do
As a Border Patrol Agent with Confidential Client, typical responsibilities include:
- Detect and question people suspected of violating immigration and customs laws; inspect documents and property to determine compliance.
- Patrol international boundaries and coastal waterways using vehicles, watercraft, horses, off‑road vehicles, ATVs, motorcycles and other assets.
- Conduct surveillance (including night operations using specialized equipment), farm and building checks, traffic and city patrols, and transportation inspections.
- Apprehend undocumented noncitizens and smugglers; collect and interpret physical evidence (tracks, marks, etc.).
- Interact with communities and other agencies professionally and lawfully; prepare reports and evidence for follow‑on procedures.
Qualifications
You may qualify at GL‑5 or GL‑7 depending on experience and education:
GL‑5 (minimum):
- One (1) year general work experience demonstrating responsibility, decision‑making under stress, ability to learn regulations and procedures, and info‑gathering skills; OR
- A bachelor’s degree from an accredited college/university; OR
- A combination of experience and education (as documented).
GL‑7 (preferred/advanced entry):
- One (1) year of specialized experience showing skills such as firearms judgement, law enforcement or security duties, criminal code enforcement, corrections, or similar law‑enforcement functions; OR
- A bachelor’s degree with superior academic achievement or one year of relevant graduate‑level education; OR
- A combination of specialized experience and education (as documented).
Additional helpful skills/attributes:
- Strong situational judgement, physical fitness, and the ability to operate vehicles and field equipment.
- Spanish language ability is valuable; training is provided to improve proficiency.
- Prior military, security, or law enforcement experience may qualify candidates for higher grade consideration (GL‑9/GS‑11).
Other Requirements & Notes
- U.S. Citizenship is required.
- Residency: primary U.S. residency for at least three of the last five years.
- Age: Candidates must be referred prior to their 40th birthday per law enforcement retirement provisions; statutory exceptions may apply (e.g., certain veterans or prior federal LEO service).
- Formal training: Selected candidates attend the Border Patrol Academy (~6 months) for intensive instruction (laws, defensive tactics, firearms, driving, Spanish language training, etc.).
- Duty assignments are determined by operational needs and may include Southwest Border or other mission‑critical sectors. Relocation may be required.
- This is a career ladder position (GL‑5 → GL‑7 → GL‑9 → GS‑11 → GS‑12) with eligibility for promotion after required time in grade.

Candidates will be asked to select preferred locations; actual duty assignment is set at time of offer. Examples include prioritized and sector stations such as:
- Presidio, Sierra Blanca, Sanderson, Comstock, Lordsburg, Freer, Hebbronville, Ajo (prioritized locations may carry additional incentives)
- Sector stations across Big Bend, Del Rio, El Paso, El Centro, Tucson, San Diego, Rio Grande Valley, Yuma, and others nationwide
