What You’ll Do

Confidential Client is hiring full-time, entry-level Border Patrol Agents to join a mission-focused federal law enforcement team. As a Border Patrol Agent you will help safeguard U.S. borders, deter illicit activity, and protect communities. Typical duties include:

  • Detect, question, and inspect individuals and possessions to determine citizenship and compliance with immigration/customs laws.
  • Patrol land and waterways using vehicles, ATVs, horses, watercraft, and other government assets.
  • Conduct surveillance (including night operations using infrared scopes) and covert observation.
  • Intercept, apprehend, and process undocumented noncitizens and smugglers; perform arrests after required training.
  • Perform farm checks, building checks, traffic checks, city patrols, and transportation inspections.
  • Interpret tracks and other physical evidence of illegal entry and produce clear incident reports.

Salary & Benefits

  • Annual base salary for newly appointed Border Patrol Agents (GL-5 / GL-7): $51,632 – $92,912 per year.
  • Confidential Client may offer up to $20,000 in recruitment incentives (e.g., payments tied to academy completion and prioritized duty locations) and up to $40,000 in retention incentives over the first four years — total incentives up to $60,000 in eligible cases.
  • Agents are eligible for federal benefits including health and dental plans, annual and sick leave, and participation in the Thrift Savings Plan (a federal retirement savings plan).
  • Locality and law-enforcement pay differentials may increase total compensation in certain locations; a fully trained agent may be eligible for additional locality or pay reform differentials.

Qualifications

You may qualify at different grade levels depending on experience and education:

GL-5 qualification (minimum):

  • One year of general work experience demonstrating decision-making, composure under stress, and ability to learn regulations and procedures; OR
  • A bachelor’s degree (any field) from an accredited institution; OR
  • A combination of education and general experience (validated by transcripts/resume).

GL-7 qualification:

  • One year of specialized experience demonstrating:
    • Sound judgment in the use of firearms,
    • Effective interpersonal skills in law enforcement contexts,
    • Rapid information analysis and prompt decision-making in enforcement settings (criminal code enforcement, security, corrections, military police, etc.); OR
  • A bachelor’s degree with superior academic achievement (class standing, GPA ≥ 3.0, or honor society membership), or one year of relevant graduate-level study; OR
  • A combination of relevant experience and education.

Note: Applicants with prior civilian federal law enforcement or military law enforcement experience may qualify at higher grade levels (GL-9, GS-11). Qualifications will be validated by resume, transcripts, and application materials.


Other Requirements & Training

  • Citizenship: U.S. citizenship required.
  • Residency: Must have primary U.S. residency for at least 3 of the last 5 years (includes U.S. protectorates as defined under law).
  • Age: Candidates must be referred for selection before their 40th birthday under federal law enforcement retirement provisions, unless an exception applies (e.g., current or prior federal civilian law enforcement service covered by specific statutes, or certain veterans’ exceptions).
  • Background & Security: Successful candidates must pass background investigation, medical, and suitability screenings.
  • Training: Selected candidates will attend an intensive federal law enforcement academy (~6 months) covering immigration and nationality law, driver training, firearms, physical techniques, and operational tactics.
  • Language: The ability to speak and read Spanish is advantageous; language training is provided during the academy as needed.
  • Physical: Candidates must meet medical and physical fitness standards required for law enforcement duties.

Duty Locations & Assignment

  • Duty assignments are based on operational needs and may include Southwest Border or other mission-critical locations. Relocation may be required.
  • Prioritized locations (examples that may affect incentive eligibility) include certain remote or high-priority stations; duty location affects pay and locality differentials.
  • This is a career-ladder position with progression through GL-5 → GL-7 → GL-9 → GS-11 → GS-12 based on time-in-grade and successful performance.
