Overview
Confidential Client is hiring full-time, entry-level Border Patrol Agents to join a federal law enforcement career track. This role is a mission-driven position that involves protecting the border, deterring illicit activity, and supporting public safety. Candidates will complete intensive training and then serve at assigned duty locations; relocation may be required.

- Annual base salary range for newly appointed BPAs (GL-5 / GL-7): $51,632 - $92,912 per year.
- Estimated salary for this listing: $71,835 per year (estimated).
- Eligible federal benefits: health, dental, and vision insurance; generous annual and sick leave; Thrift Savings Plan (retirement savings).
- Language training and job-specific law enforcement training provided at the agency training academy.
- Note: Duty location affects locality pay; fully trained BPAs may be eligible for up to an additional 25% of base pay per applicable pay provisions.
Incentives
- Recruitment incentive: up to $20,000 (e.g., $10,000 after successful completion of the Academy and $10,000 for accepting certain prioritized locations).
- Retention incentive: may qualify for up to $40,000 distributed over the first four years.
- Total potential incentives: up to $60,000 (see qualifications and agency guidance for details).

What You’ll Do
Border Patrol Agents perform a range of operational law enforcement duties to safeguard borders and public safety. Typical responsibilities include:
- Detect and question individuals suspected of violating immigration or customs laws; inspect documents and possessions.
- Prevent and apprehend undocumented noncitizens and human smugglers via surveillance and interdiction operations.
- Interpret and follow tracks, marks, and other physical evidence of illegal entry.
- Conduct farm checks, building checks, traffic checks, city patrols, and transportation inspections.
- Patrol boundaries and waterways using vehicles, horses, vessels, ATVs, off-road vehicles, snowmobiles, and motorcycles as required.
Qualifications
You may qualify at GL‑5 or GL‑7 grade levels depending on experience and education.
For GL‑5 (minimum):
- One year of general work experience demonstrating the ability to take charge, make sound decisions under stress, learn regulations/methods through training, and gather concise information through observation and questioning; OR
- Education substitution: bachelor’s degree (or completion of a full four‑year course of study) from an accredited college or university; OR
- A combination of education and experience (evaluated from resume and transcripts).
For GL‑7:
- One year of specialized work experience showing ability to:
- Make sound judgments in the use of firearms;
- Deal effectively and tactfully with people in law enforcement contexts;
- Analyze information quickly and make prompt decisions (including making arrests after required training); OR
- Education substitution: bachelor’s degree with superior academic achievement (class standing, GPA ≥ 3.0, or honor society membership) OR one year of graduate-level study in a related field; OR
- A combination of specialized experience and education (evaluated from resume and transcripts).
Note: Candidates with prior federal civilian or military law enforcement experience may qualify at higher grade levels (GL‑9 / GS‑11). Review agency guidance for higher-grade announcements.
Other Requirements & Training
- U.S. citizenship required.
- Residency: primary U.S. residency for at least 3 of the last 5 years.
- Age: applicants must generally be referred prior to age 40 per law enforcement retirement provisions; exceptions may apply for prior federal civilian LEO service or veterans’ preference eligibles.
- Formal training: newly hired agents attend the Confidential Client training academy (approximately six months) for instruction in law, operations, driver training, physical techniques, firearms, and language training. Agents are expected to become proficient in English and may receive Spanish language training.
- Background checks, medical and fitness standards, and other pre-employment requirements apply.
How Selection Works (summary)
