What You’ll Do
Confidential Client is hiring entry-level Border Patrol Agents to join a mission-driven federal law enforcement team. This is a full-time, career-position that includes intensive academy training followed by field assignments. Typical day-to-day responsibilities include:
- Detecting and questioning people suspected of violating immigration and customs laws; inspecting documents and possessions.
- Preventing and apprehending undocumented noncitizens and smugglers using surveillance (day/night) and covert positions.
- Interpreting physical evidence such as tracks, marks, and signs of illegal entry.
- Performing farm checks, building and traffic checks, city patrols, and transportation checks.
- Patrolling international boundaries and coastal waterways using vehicles, horses, vessels, ATVs, motorcycles, and other government assets.
Who We’re Looking For (Qualifications)
Candidates who meet one of the following will qualify for initial grade consideration:
GL-5 (entry level) — one of:
- One year of general work experience demonstrating decision-making, composure under stress, and the ability to learn procedures through training or on-the-job instruction; OR
- A bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university; OR
- A combination of general experience and college coursework (evaluated from resume and transcripts).
GL-7 — one of:
- One year of specialized experience showing ability to make sound judgments with firearms, deal tactfully with people on law-enforcement matters, analyze information quickly and make prompt decisions (e.g., criminal enforcement, corrections, security, military service); OR
- A bachelor’s degree with superior academic achievement or one year of relevant graduate-level study; OR
- A combination of experience and education (evaluated from resume and transcripts).
Other requirements:
- U.S. citizenship required.
- Must have had primary U.S. residency for at least 3 of the last 5 years.
- Age requirement: Referred for selection before the 40th birthday (exceptions may apply for certain prior federal law enforcement or veterans’ preference eligible candidates).
- Formal training: Successful candidates attend an approximately six-month academy (intensive instruction in law enforcement, immigration law, driver training, firearms, physical techniques). Spanish language proficiency is helpful; language training is provided during the academy.
Compensation & Incentives
- Annual base salary for newly appointed BPAs (GL-5 / GL-7): $51,632 – $92,912 per year (grade- and locality-dependent).
- Estimated midpoint for this listing: approximately $77,223/year.
- Recruitment incentive: Up to $20,000 for newly appointed BPAs (first $10,000 upon successful academy completion; remaining $10,000 for accepting a prioritized location).
- Retention incentive: Up to $40,000 distributed over the first four years for eligible new hires.
- Additional federal benefits: health/dental insurance options, annual and sick leave, participation in the Thrift Savings Plan (retirement savings).
Location, Assignments & Travel
- Duty assignments are mission-driven and may include Southwest Border and other sector stations nationwide. Relocation may be required; duty assignment is determined at time of offer based on operational need.
- Some prioritized duty locations may offer additional incentives.
- This is a career-ladder position: GL-5 → GL-7 → GL-9 → GS-11 → GS-12 (promotion typically after successful completion of 52 weeks in each grade).
Selected mission-critical locations include (examples):
- Presidio, Sierra Blanca, Sanderson, Comstock, Lordsburg, Ajo, Hebbronville, Freer, and multiple sector stations across TX, AZ, CA, NM, WA, MT, ND, and other regions.
