What You’ll Do

Confidential Client is seeking a Bioinformatics Software Engineer contractor to help build a next-generation computational platform for antibody-based therapeutic design and assessment. You will develop scalable software infrastructure, automated scientific workflows, data management systems, and interactive visualizations that accelerate discovery.

  • Design and implement scalable web-based interfaces for computational biophysics and antibody-design workflows.
  • Build and maintain FastAPI-based backend services and REST/GraphQL APIs to support computational workloads.
  • Develop and optimize database schemas (SQL and NoSQL) to store scientific data, computational results, and metadata.
  • Create, containerize, and orchestrate automated scientific pipelines (Nextflow or similar) and integrate with HPC schedulers (SLURM).
  • Connect databases, pipeline outputs, APIs, and visualization layers to provide reproducible, auditable workflows.
  • Rapidly prototype and iterate using modern AI-assisted development tools and best-practice engineering workflows.
  • Ensure code quality through modular design, unit/integration testing, CI/CD, version control, and documentation.
  • Support deployment, validation, and performance testing in HPC and cloud (AWS/GCP) environments.

Who You Are (Required Qualifications)

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, Physics, or a related field; 0–3 years relevant experience. PhD candidates encouraged to apply.
  • Strong proficiency in Python and experience developing scientific software.
  • Hands-on experience with FastAPI, and working knowledge of SQL and/or NoSQL database design.
  • Experience building and orchestrating computational pipelines (Nextflow or comparable tools).
  • Familiarity with HPC environments and workload schedulers such as SLURM.
  • Front-end and data-visualization skills (React, JavaScript, HTML/CSS or equivalent) to create interactive interfaces.
  • Solid tooling experience: Git, Docker (or other container tech), CI/CD pipelines, and test-driven development.
  • Experience with cloud platforms (AWS or GCP) and deploying scientific workloads.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills for multidisciplinary scientific teams.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Familiarity with protein structure, antibody design, molecular modeling, or structure-based computational methods.
  • Experience with molecular modeling tools (MOE, Schrödinger, or equivalents).
  • Prior biotech / pharmaceutical industry experience and familiarity with biologics discovery workflows.
  • Demonstrated use of AI-assisted coding tools to accelerate prototyping and development.

Role Details

  • Location: Foster City, CA — Hybrid (3 days onsite). Local candidates only.
  • Employment type: Contractor (W2 candidates only).
  • Duration: 6 months (with potential to extend based on project needs).
  • Compensation: $65.00/hr – $72.00/hr (base pay range).
