What You’ll Do
This entry-level electrical engineering role supports plant automation, power distribution, and capital projects in a high-speed paper converting environment. You will work with senior engineers and maintenance technicians to diagnose automation faults, support PLC/VFD systems, and help deliver electrical improvements that increase uptime and safety.
- Assist senior engineers with planning, designing, and executing electrical capital projects (machinery upgrades, line installations, and power distribution changes).
- Support troubleshooting, programming, and calibration of PLCs, VFDs, HMIs, and industrial sensors.
- Draft and maintain single-line diagrams, ladder logic schematics, panel layouts, and conduit routing using AutoCAD Electrical or similar tools.
- Perform root-cause analysis on recurring electrical or operational failures and recommend corrective actions.
- Help evaluate 480V 3-phase power systems, MCC configurations, and arc-flash hazards under engineering supervision.
- Collaborate with maintenance on preventive/predictive maintenance improvements, thermal imaging inspections, and reliability initiatives.
- Maintain accurate project files, engineering change notices (ECNs), equipment specifications, and machine documentation consistent with ISO 9001:2015.
Qualifications
We’re looking for an entry-level engineer (0–2 years) with a strong academic foundation and an eagerness to learn in a hands-on manufacturing setting.
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering (BSEE), Electrical Engineering Technology (BSEET), Mechatronics, or equivalent required.
- Eligible or working toward Engineer-in-Training (EIT) / Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) preferred.
- Internship, co-op, or capstone project experience in manufacturing, automation, or industrial plant settings is strongly preferred.
- Familiarity with 3-phase industrial power distribution (480V/240V/120V), AC/DC motors, and VFD basics.
- Exposure to PLC programming (Allen-Bradley/Rockwell Studio 5000, Siemens TIA Portal) and AutoCAD / AutoCAD Electrical.
- Proficient with MS Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint) and able to prepare technical reports.
- Professional verbal and written English required; bilingual English/Spanish strongly preferred.
- Must be legally authorized to work in the United States.
Physical Demands & Work Environment
This role splits time between office-based engineering work and active production floor activities in a paper manufacturing environment.
- Ability to walk production areas, stand for extended periods, inspect equipment, and access electrical panels.
- Occasional lifting of tools or test equipment up to ~30 lbs.
- Ability to bend, crouch, climb authorized platforms or ladders for inspections.
- Work environment includes high-speed machinery noise, paper dust, grease, and temperature variation.
- Required PPE includes safety boots, protective eyewear, hearing protection, cut-resistant gloves, arc-rated PPE for energized work, and high-visibility vests.
