Overview
Confidential Client is hiring a Battery Materials Technician to support materials screening, characterization, and incoming quality control for electrode and cell development programs. This hands‑on, measurement‑focused role operates a range of analytical instruments to generate high‑quality materials data that informs purchasing, supplier qualification, and formulation development. This is an on‑site, full‑time position based in San Leandro, CA.
What You’ll Do
- Perform incoming QC characterization on raw materials and make pass/fail determinations against acceptance criteria.
- Operate analytical instruments for materials characterization, including particle size analyzers, BET surface area instruments, XRD, SEM/EDS, TGA/DSC, rheometers, and conductivity test equipment.
- Prepare samples for analysis using wet chemistry and physical sample‑prep techniques (e.g., milling, drying, pressing, cross‑sectioning, titration).
- Maintain materials inventory records and update the materials database.
- Support supplier qualification by generating comparative datasets across vendor samples.
- Produce clear characterization reports, summary tables, and documented observations; escalate anomalous results or instrument issues.
- Perform routine instrument maintenance, calibration, troubleshooting, and maintain calibration logs and SOP documentation.
- Follow chemical hygiene, PPE, and lab safety protocols and ensure characterization areas remain clean and organized.
Required Experience & Skills
- 1–3 years hands‑on experience operating analytical instruments in a materials, chemistry, or battery laboratory (relevant internships considered).
- Proficiency with one or more: particle size analysis, BET, XRD, SEM/EDS, TGA/DSC, rheometry.
- Experience with materials sample preparation techniques (milling, drying, pressing, cross‑sectioning).
- Strong attention to detail and a methodical approach to measurement and data quality.
- Ability to read, follow, and contribute to SOPs and maintain clear documentation.
- Working knowledge of laboratory safety, chemical handling, and PPE requirements.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, Materials Science, Chemical Engineering, or a closely related field is preferred.
- Candidates with an Associate’s degree or equivalent technical training plus directly relevant lab experience will also be considered.
Location & Compensation
- Location: San Leandro, CA (on‑site required)
- Rate: $30–$35 per hour

Preferred / Nice to Have
- Prior experience in battery materials, electrode formulations, or cell development labs.
- Familiarity with laboratory information management systems (LIMS) or materials inventory databases.
- Experience writing or updating SOPs and maintaining calibration/standards records.
